Publication number: 20120319461Abstract: A protective cap is installed in a wheel hub to protect a wheel speed sensor and bearing assembly from intrusion of dirt. The hub has inner and outer end faces, and a central bore having splines for engagement by a splined driveshaft. The speed sensor system has a segmented disc rotating with the hub and a sensor mounted on a housing and extending into proximity with the segmented disc. The protective cap includes a stem for insertion through the central bore and a head having an under face for engaging with the inner end face of the hub. The head has a distal rim portion overlapping the housing to allow rotation of the protective cap relative the housing to prevent entry of dirt to the speed sensor system and bearing. The stem has yieldable retainers for engaging with the outer end face of the hub to retain the protective cap.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2011Publication date: December 20, 2012Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: AVISSAI ALCANTARA BURGUETE, Ricardo Guerrero Melendez, Marcos Portillo Martinez

Publication number: 20090066152Abstract: A protection structure for outer shell of a hub comprises: a hub and an outer shell mounted at one end of the hub, the outer shell is provided at one end close to the hub with an enlarged flange, on an outer peripheral surface of the outer shell are annularly and spaced-apart formed a plurality of splines and at least one positioning rib, at least at one side of each splines is disposed a protection structure whose material is different from that of the outer shell. By such arrangements, the protection structure can be assembled with the cassette to prevent the cassette touching the splines, thus preventing the damage of the outer shell of the hub.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2008Publication date: March 12, 2009Inventor: Gwo-Dong YOU

Publication number: 20080303339Abstract: The invention relates to a wheel hub having a central section and having a radial section which radially adjoins said central section, having a bearing section which projects axially from the central section for holding a wheel bearing and having an axially opposite holding section for holding a brake disk and a wheel rim, wherein holes for holding wheel bolts are formed in the radial section. In order to obtain a particularly light wheel hub which can withstand all operating loads and offers a reliable contact face for a brake disk under all operating conditions, it is provided that the wheel hub has recesses at least between some holes, which recesses extend completely through the wall of the radial section of the wheel hub, and that stiffening ribs are formed between the respective recesses which stiffening ribs axially thicken the radial section between the recesses.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 9, 2006Publication date: December 11, 2008Applicant: SCHAEFFLER KGInventors: Peter Niebling, Robert Plank, Heinrich Hofmann, Horst Doeppling

Publication number: 20080296965Abstract: The invention relates to a wheel hub having a central section and a radial section which is radially connected to the central section, a bearing section which axially protrudes from the central section and is used to receive a wheel bearing, and an axially opposing receiving section for receiving a brake disk and a wheel rim. Holes for receiving wheel nuts are formed in the radial section. In order to produce an especially light wheel hub that can withstand all operating loads and provides a brake disk with a secure abutment surface under all operating conditions, the wheel hub has recesses at least between some holes, the recesses fully penetrating the wall of the radial section of the wheel hub, and at least one reinforcing means is embodied on the radial end of the wheel hub.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 2, 2006Publication date: December 4, 2008Applicant: SCHAEFFLER KGInventors: Heinrich Hofmann, Horst Doeppling, Peter Niebling, Robert Plank
