Patent number: 7314256Abstract: A dust cap is mounting on the front wheel of a racing car to prevent contamination of the corresponding wheel bearings. The dust cap is threaded for engagement with corresponding threads formed on the wheel hub to allow the dust cap to be quickly removed or installed. An O-ring housed in a groove formed in the wheel hub engages the outer circumference of the dust cap to affect a seal between the dust cap and the wheel, and to restrict rotational movement of the dust cap and prevent an unintentional disengagement of the dust cap from the wheel. The closed end of the dust cap is formed with hexagonal flats having a spacing that fit the wrench used for engagement of the nut holding the wheel on the axle spindle, thus reducing the time needed for removal of the front wheel, particularly during pit stops in a car race.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2005Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: Diversified Machine, Inc.Inventor: James S. Patent number: 7273259Abstract: A bicycle hub cover assembly is installed on a bicycle hub to provide a hard, rigid protective cover for the bicycle hub. In one embodiment, the bicycle hub cover assembly has a hub shell cover, a first hub end cover, a second hub end cover and a pair of fasteners that attach the hub end covers to the axle of the bicycle hub. The hub shell cover is configured and arranged to be mounted concentrically around a center portion of the hub shell of the bicycle hub, while the hub end covers overlie the axial ends of the bicycle hub. Thus, the bicycle hub is completely enclosed, except for a small gap located between the hub shell cover and each of the first and second hub end covers. In another embodiment, the hub shell cover is eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2006Date of Patent: September 25, 2007Assignee: Shimano Inc.Inventor: Seiji Fukui
