Publication number: 20150042148Abstract: The Dual Tire Shield of the invention mounts between dual tires and helps to prevent debris from getting into the gap between dual tires and/or damaging the tires when it does so. In some embodiments it can also serve as a runflat for dual tires. Debris can become wedged between the sidewalls of dual tires that face each other, or “inner sidewalls” of such tires. The dual tire shield prevents debris from getting stuck between the inner sidewalls of the dual tires and thereby prevents flats caused by sidewall puncture or bead de-seating due to such debris. The device accomplishes this by: Blocking debris from entering the gap between duals and/or prevent debris from being wedged in the gap; keeping such debris from contact with one or both of the tires even if wedged therebetween; and/or ejecting debris from between the tires. Further, the dual tire shield may be made rigid enough and/or include rigid portions so as to act as a runflat in case a tire goes flat regardless of the reason.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 13, 2013Publication date: February 12, 2015Inventors: Lars Johan RESARE, Brian T. Patent number: 6390564Abstract: A pneumatic tire wheel assembly 4 for tracked vehicles 1 has a unique rim assembly 8 for dual wheel mounting. The rim assembly has a pair of annular rims 6 connected by a plurality of laterally extending spokes 10,20 or 30. The spokes 10,20 or 30 enable mud and debris to pass preventing the accumulation of debris, mud, or snow between the wheel and the track.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2000Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventor: Richard Alan Thomas

Patent number: 6345868Abstract: A dual wheel axle assembly for a vehicle is provided for reducing tire wear caused by scrubbing during vehicle turns. The assembly includes an axle housing having an axle shaft arranged within the axle housing. The axle shaft defines a rotational axis. A first wheel hub is supported on an end portion of the axle housing and is mechanically coupled to the axle shaft. A second wheel hub is supported on the end portion adjacent to the first wheel hub. A fluid coupling is interconnected between the axle shaft and the second wheel hub. The fluid coupling has fluid for fluidly driving the second wheel hub through the axle shaft and permitting the second wheel hub to rotate about the rotational axis relative to the first wheel hub during the vehicle turn.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2000Date of Patent: February 12, 2002Assignee: Meritor Heavy Vehicle Systems, LLCInventors: Larry W. Patent number: 6250722Abstract: A two-piece hub extension for adding dual wheels to a mechanical front-wheel drive axle of an agricultural tractor has an inner extension ring that surrounds the final drive cover of the front axle and an outer extension member of reduced diameter that extends outward from the inner extension ring. The inner extension ring only extends outward far enough to clear the axle final drive cover. The inner ring is mounted by bolts that extend entirely through ring so that the bolt heads are external of the inner ring and can be easily reached. The outer extension member is mounted to the inner extension ring by long bolts extending through the inner extension ring and into the hub. The dual wheel is mounted to the outer wheel hub. The reduced diameter of the outer extension member results in improved crop clearance between the two tires.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1999Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Deere & CompanyInventor: Gregory Dean Radke

Patent number: 6202960Abstract: A method and apparatus for eliminating aircraft landing gear fore-and-aft vibration is provided. The method includes using a tuned mass absorber attached to the landing gear. The gear walk motion has a peak amplitude motion and a pre-peak amplitude motion. The tuned mass absorber includes a mass and a spring, with the mass being oriented to move in a fore-and-aft direction at a frequency and amplitude that counterbalances the gear fore-and-aft vibration. The mass in one embodiment is of an amount in the range of 1 to 2 percent of the effective landing gear mass. In one embodiment, the tuned mass absorber is attached to a landing gear strut near the strut's distal end. The motion of the tuned mass absorber mass moves at a frequency and amplitude that counterbalances the gear walk pre-peak amplitude motion. Therefore, the absorber mass is of an amount less than the mass required to counterbalance gear walk peak amplitude motion.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1998Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Matt H.
