  • Patent number: 9452637
Abstract: A vehicle wheel includes a rim portion, a hub portion, a plurality of spokes and a plurality of decorative attachments. Each pair of adjacent spokes defines a window therebetween. The plurality of decorative attachments are secured to the wheel and each define a plurality of rearwardly extending boss portions. Each boss portion abuts the wheel. In certain applications, the boss portions may be received within a respective countersunk hole in the wheel and engaged by a fastener for securing the decorative attachment to the wheel. A free end of each of the boss portions abuts a bottom of its respective countersunk hole and the decorative attachment is otherwise spaced from the wheel to reduce noise issues. Alternatively, the ends of the boss portion may be spaced from the wheel and drawn toward the wheel with the threaded fasteners.

  • Publication number: 20100066156
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a wheel for a vehicle, in which burrs that are created in forming vent holes do not contact with the inner circumference of rim when disc is combined with rim, such that it is possible to prevent damage to the inside of rim due to burrs. Further, a hub cap is formed in the minimum size for covering only hub hole and separably combined with a cylindrical protrusion of disc, such that it is possible to reduce the manufacturing cost and the weight, and improve the fuel efficiency. Furthermore, a plurality of water discharge holes is formed along the joint of rim and disc, such that the water discharge holes make it possible to prevent water from collecting again at the joint of rim and disc after a process of removing water.

  • Patent number: 6945609
Abstract: A wheel cover apparatus for augmenting a vehicle wheel to provide various aesthetic appearances while also allowing for relatively easy removal without sacrificing security. A releasable connector can be used to releasably secure the wheel cover to a mounting member. The mounting member can be attached to vehicle wheel lug bolts. In order to provide a releasable connection the connector assembly can include a receiving assembly and an engaging assembly such as a ball lock mechanism. Further, the present invention can include a bearing which allows the wheel cover to rotate independently of the mounting member. Such rotation can be free rotation or weighted such that the wheel cover remains in substantially the same orientation during travel as when at rest. In this way, designs or images on the wheel cover can be viewed during motion of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6886891
Abstract: In a structure of mounting a wheel cap to a wheel, a plurality of pairs of support plates are projectingly provided on an inner wall of the wheel cap made of a synthetic resin and arranged annularly so that the support plates in each pair are opposed to each other in a circumferential direction. A pair of elastic support legs extending from opposed surfaces of the support plates in each pair are integrally connected to each other to form a V-shape. A locking claw is formed on a connection between the support legs and capable of being engaged into a locking recess in an inner peripheral surface of a rim of the wheel. An annular setting spring is connected to the locking claws for biasing the locking claws in a direction to come into engagement in the locking recess. Thus, it is possible to form each of the support legs supporting each of the locking claws sufficiently long to enhance the flexibility of the support leg, thereby improving durability of the support legs and mounting property of the wheel cap.

Abstract: An ornamental wheel cover integrally retained on the lug nuts of a vehicle wheel that provides positive positioning of the cover to the lug nuts. The cover is provided with a number of elongated tubular extensions axially projecting therefrom that are each partially slotted to provide a plurality of cantilevered fingers. Each finger has an undercut groove that positively positions the cover to the lug nuts of the wheel. When the cover is attached to the wheel, the elongated tubular extensions are aligned with the lug nuts and the cover is moved axially inwardly of the wheel so that the cantilevered fingers separate slightly as they pass over the flange of the lug nut. The wheel cover further includes a wire band retainer to bias the innermost cantilevered fingers into continual engagement with the lug nuts, even during temperatures that would otherwise cause the plastic to distort due to heat creep.
