  • Publication number: 20030067208
Abstract: A balance weight for a wheel of a two-wheel vehicle includes a weight body made from metal other than lead and a clip made from spring steel. The weight body includes a U-shaped transverse cross-section and a groove for mounting the clip therein. The weight body further includes a groove bottom wall and a pair of groove side walls connected to opposite width ends of the groove bottom wall. The clip includes a bottom portion and a pair of arms connected to opposite width ends of the bottom portion of the clip. The clip is mounted to the groove bottom wall of the weight body with the bottom portion of the clip contacting closely to the groove bottom wall of the weight body. The clip and the weight body are coupled to each other by a mechanical coupling. The coupling may be replaced by a local welding.

  • Patent number: 6484574
Abstract: A balancer for a wheel rim/tire assembly, including a rotation sensor assembly for measuring rotation, and a motor operatively connected for rotating the wheel rim/tire assembly. A control circuit controls the motor to actively hold the wheel rim/tire assembly at a desired rotational position. A rim measuring apparatus is configured to scan the inner surface of the wheel rim/tire assembly. The optimum plane locations, amounts of correction weights, and the number of correction weights, are calculated by the control circuit to result in a minimized residual static and dynamic imbalance. The control circuit utilizes the motor drive to automatically index and hold the wheel rim/tire assembly at the proper rotational position for placement of an imbalance correction weight, and a laser pointer illuminates the surface of the wheel rim/tire assembly at the axial position of the weight imbalance correction plane at which the imbalance correction weight is to be applied.

  • Publication number: 20020140281
Abstract: A wheel balance weight includes a plurality of weights, an adhesive sealing member and a regulatory member. The adhesive sealing member fastens the plurality of weights onto an inner peripheral surface of a rim in a wheel, and has an adhesive surface to be bonded to the inner peripheral surface. The regulatory member inhibits at least two of the plurality of weights, being disposed to neighbor with each other, from moving by a predetermined magnitude or more. Hence, the wheel balance weight deal can be dealt with readily before it is installed to the wheel, is likely to conform to the inner surface, and can have a desired mass with ease.

  • Publication number: 20020135223
Abstract: A weight for correcting imbalance in a rotary element includes a number of discrete weights. The number of discrete weights is selected to substantially correct the imbalance. A piece of double sided tape has sufficient length for the number of discrete weights to be adhered to the length of double sided tape. A removable film protects the side of the tape opposite the side to which the discrete weights are adhered. The film reduces the likelihood of contamination until the film is removed to expose the side of the tape opposite the side to which the discrete weights are adhered, permitting the weight to be applied to the rotary element.

  • Patent number: 6364421
Abstract: A wheel balancing device is provided having a plurality of wheel balancing weights attached to a top surface of an elongate tape and a backing strip removably attached to and protecting an adhesive layer on the bottom surface of the tape with the backing strip having a width greater than that of the tape to facilitate removing the backing strip from the tape prior to installation of the wheel weights onto a rim of a wheel. The greater width of the backing strip as compared to the tape facilitates removal of the backing strip from the tape by a user who may simply grab a portion of the backing strip which extends beyond the tape to peel away the backing strip. Preferably, the plurality of wheel balancing weights are connected in end-to-end relationship on the tape and are preformed of a generally uniform size and weight.

  • Patent number: 6324753
Abstract: A mounting assistance device with which a vibrating device can be efficiently mounted to a tire and wheel assembly. In the mounting assistance device, abutting portions are made to abut against sidewall portions of a tire and then an eccentric disc is pressed against a sliding portion so as to be united therewith by lowering a lever of a handle member in a first direction. In this state, when the lever is rotated 180° about a pin member in a second direction, due to an effect of the eccentric disc, clamping members move in a mutually approaching direction. Accordingly, clamping and fixing to the tire is accomplished by the mounting assistance device. Thus, the mounting assistance device (and vibrating device) can be mounted without using tools, simply by rotating the lever in the two directions.
