  • Patent number: 7681958
Abstract: A multi-piece wheel, which is assembled with multiple pieces of pre-made structural members, including an outer wheel ring, a central hub and multiple spokes. The outer wheel ring is comprised of a circular wall for affixing a tire on its inner surface and connecting spokes on its outer surface. The spokes are the wheel intermediate members which at their respective first and second end are connected to the respective outer wheel ring and the central hub. The central hub is a circular structure including a central bore and front circular arcuate surface, wherein multiple pockets are placed on the front surface for connecting the spoke second ends to the central hub. Various structural variations of the central hub and spokes regarding their connection are also disclosed, which results in various embodiments of the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20090243371
Abstract: The present invention relates to a shock absorbing wheel with shock absorbing properties, the wheel comprises a hub, arms and a rim. The hub comprises radial junctions between the arms and the hub, additionally the rim comprises radial junctions between the arms and the rim, wherein between the radial junctions of the hub and the rim the arms are arranged with a substantially sinusoidal shaped form. The arms further comprise a first, a second, a third and a fourth section, wherein in the first section, the arms extend from the radial junctions between the arms and the hub in a first radial direction A, and in the forth section, the arms extend from the radial junctions between the arms and the rim in a second radial direction B. The sinusoidal shaped form is arranged in the second and the third sections of the arms. The present invention is said to provide for a cost effective wheel with good shock absorbing properties.

  • Patent number: 6773077
Abstract: The present invention provides a motorcycle wheel that includes a rim, a hub, and a spoke. The rim is adapted to receive a motorcycle tire and the hub is adapted to receive and support a motorcycle axle. The spoke extends between the rim and the hub. The spoke includes first and second walls that are separated by a distance. The first and second walls are substantially entirely unconnected to each other between the hub and the rim. The spokes are all connected to the hub substantially centered about a central plane and connected to the rim on one side of the central plane.

  • Patent number: 6196638
Abstract: A bicycle wheel basically has a hub, a plurality of spokes extending outwardly from the hub and an annular rim coupled to the outer ends of the spokes for supporting a tire. The annular rim has a spoke attachment portion with a plurality of openings for receiving the outer ends of the spokes therein. In the most preferred embodiment, the bicycle wheel is a one-piece, unitary wheel. Preferably, the one-piece, unitary bicycle wheel of the present invention is produced by die-casting. The preferred material for bicycle wheel of the present invention is magnesium (Mg). A centrally located rib portion is located between adjacent spoke portions and to reinforce the rim portion between spokes. Rib portions extend radially inwardly from the inner peripheral surface of rim portion. Preferably, the middle segment of each of the rib portions has a radial height that is approximately equal to the base rim height plus more than half of the base rim height.

  • Patent number: 3950033
Abstract: A wheel manufactured from an elongated section of sheet steel is disclosed together with a method for its manufacture. Five rim retaining flanges are formed in the sheet steel. A rim retaining lip is formed along one edge of each of these five flanges. A reinforcing rib is formed adjacent each side of each rim retaining flange, making a total of ten reinforcing ribs. The sheet steel, formed with flanges and ribs, is coiled into a single closed loop. Ten circumferentially spaced radial vanes are formed in the loop. The five rim retaining flanges interconnect pairs of adjacent vanes at the outer diameter of the resulting wheel. At the inner diameter of the resulting wheel, five hub attachment flanges interconnect pairs of vanes. A threaded hub, fitted with bearing positioning shoulders, is welded and riveted to the five hub attachment flanges to complete the wheel.
