Abstract: A method for building a bicycle wheel and the wheel. Inserting a threaded end (106) of a spoke (100) through a hole (126) in the rim (102), through a spacer (118), and engaging the threaded end (106) with an internally threaded connector (104). The rim (102) and the connector (104) cooperate to maintain the axis of the threaded end (106) of each spoke (100) in a given spoke hole (126) so that it is skewed relative to the axis of a first portion of each spoke (100) extending from the hub to the rim (102). While the connector (104) is turned to tension the spoke (100), the spoke (100) permanently bends at a point (128) remote from the spoke's thread end (106).
Abstract: A rim structure for a bicycle wheel that includes, at its periphery, an annular channel designed to receive a tire, such channel being demarcated by an upper bridge devoid of openings with the exception of the valve opening, and two lateral flanges, such flanges having end butts for gripping the tire. The upper bridge has a narrow and recessed central rim well demarcated by a base and two lateral walls, the rim well being bordered by two bead seats that are oblique from the rim well towards the flanges. The invention is also related to a wheel having such a rim and a wheel equipped with a tire mounted without an air tube and having such a rim.
Abstract: A bicycle rim including an annular shaped element whose cross-section includes a box shape demarcated by an upper bridge and a lower portion having a lower bridge and side walls, the lower bridge or the side walls having holes distributed evenly and provided for the connection of the spokes, the holes and their immediate vicinity defining boring zones. The thickness of the walls constituted by the lower bridge and the side walls has a nominal value in the boring zones and a lower value than the nominal value in the intermediate zones located between two adjacent boring zones, and the thickness of this wall varies progressively from the nominal value to the lower value to the nominal value.
Abstract: A bicycle wheel rim has an integrally formed annular rim body with left and right tire retaining walls, and a base wall interconnecting the tire retaining walls. The base wall has a radial inner face facing a central axis of the rim body, a radial outer face, a left section connected to the left tire retaining wall, a right section connected to the right tire retaining wall, and a vaulted portion interconnecting the left and right sections. The vaulted portion is vaulted in a radial outward direction relative to the left and right sections so as to define an annular recess in the radial inner face and an annular protrusion on the radial outer face. The annular recess is adapted for retaining a peripheral portion of a circular disc therein. Optionally, the base wall is formed with a plurality of spoke mounting holes distributed in the left and right sections and adapted for retaining spoke fasteners therein.
Abstract: A bicycle rim is provided with a wear indicator. The bicycle rim has an outer annular portion, an annular spoke attachment portion and a pair of oppositely facing annular braking surfaces. The outer annular portion is adapted to receive a tire and the annular spoke attachment portion is coupled to the outer annular portion. The annular spoke attachment portion is adapted to be coupled to a plurality of spokes. At least one of the annular braking surfaces has a wear indicator.
