  • Patent number: 8046147
Abstract: When swaying motions of a trailer or semi-trailer of a car-trailer combination are encountered, input signals which are taken into consideration to calculate a reference signal frequently include also oscillation components, due to which driving dynamics control for stabilization of the car-trailer combination can become very unreliable. To enhance the reliability of driving dynamics control of this type, a method is disclosed in which an input signal (Y) is sensed that includes signal oscillations which are due to a swaying motion of the trailer or semi-trailer and are superimposed on a base component (YBasis) of the input signal (Y). A reference signal is calculated from the input signal (Y), in which case the calculation is executed in such a way that the reference signal by approximation corresponds to a reference signal which is determined from the base component (YBasis) of the input signal (Y).

  • Publication number: 20110006592
Abstract: Systems and methods for accumulating air in an auxiliary reservoir of a railroad car are disclosed. In some embodiments, the method may include charging an air brake system. Air pressure in the air brake system may reach a predetermined value. Once this predetermined value is reached, additional or excess air may be bled from the air brake system and the additional or excess air may accumulate in an auxiliary reservoir. The auxiliary reservoir may be adapted to supply air to an auxiliary cylinder or other types of pneumatic components or equipment.

  • Patent number: 6758298
Abstract: A bus door/service brake interlock system having a warning system is provided. The interlock system includes a foot valve assembly to effect a service brake application when warning lights are activated, a vehicle door is open, and minimum speed conditions are met. An auxiliary line is positioned between a source of pressure and the foot valve assembly and includes a valve and a low pressure indicator. Should the operator leave the driver seat with the interlock system engaged, the parking brake is automatically applied.

  • Patent number: 6702400
Abstract: A bus door/service brake interlock system having a warning system is provided to inform a driver that the service brake pressure is insufficient or not being applied at all, as well as indicating if a system malfunction occurs, precluding a service brake application. The system is based on a sequential operation of the driver activating the caution lights and opening the door. Once these events have occurred, the autobrake system including an alarm is activated. On the other hand, applying the park brake deactivates the autobrake system. The autobrake assembly energizes a solenoid that receives regulated pressure from a pressure reducing valve. This pressure is supplied to one side of a double check valve, while the other side receives a delivery from the foot valve to assure delivery for normal service braking.

  • Publication number: 20020153765
Abstract: An apparatus for communicating information over a pressurized fluid-carrying pipe connecting a plurality of serial nodes. A sounder node (i.e., transmitter) creates variable pressure patterns within the fluid-carrying pipe, which pressure patterns are identified and detected by other nodes. The patterns convey information or solicit responses from the receiving nodes. The receiving nodes reply to the pressure fluctuations by inducing reply pressure fluctuations in the fluid-carrying pipe or by communicating with the sounder node via a separate radio frequency communications system. The apparatus and method can be used as an information-carrying communications medium or a train linking methodology for a railroad train.

  • Patent number: 6189644
Abstract: An emergency brake lock assembly that locks an emergency brake actuator in an engaged position to prevent the vehicle from moving while a lift assembly contained on the vehicle is being operated. The emergency brake lock assembly includes an emergency brake switch that is positioned to detect movement of the emergency brake actuator between an engaged position and a disengaged position. When the emergency brake actuator is in the engaged position, the emergency brake switch generates a brake engaged signal. An auxiliary door switch is positioned to detect the movement of an auxiliary door contained on the vehicle. When the auxiliary door opens, the auxiliary door switch generates a door open signal. Upon receiving both the door open signal and the brake engaged signal, a solenoid actuator moves a locking member to a locked position to retain the emergency brake actuator in the engaged position.
