Polyphase Patents (Class 307/13)
  • Patent number: 10164545
Abstract: A power distribution system in which a power source is configured to supply an amount of high-frequency input power to a centralized frequency converter unit. The centralized frequency converter unit is configured to convert the high-frequency input power into low-frequency converted power. Passenger Electronic Device Controllers receive the converted power and distribute it to outlet units. Power management functions may be integrated with the distribution system. For instance, the centralized frequency converter unit can cause to be disabled unused outlet units when the power drawn by the used outlet units exceeds a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 10126804
Abstract: Aspects extend to methods, systems, and computer program products for balancing input phases across server rack power supplies. A rack manager can monitor individual Alternating Current (AC) phase currents at the rack level. The rack manager knows (or can at least determine) which power supplies are connected to which phase. The rack manager can micro adjust individual PSU output voltages to balance current phases at the rack level. Balancing can occur in response to changed server workloads, hot-unplug of one or more servers, etc. When there is one PSU per server, phase balancing can be accomplished by connecting outputs of power supplies together via busbar or wire. Output voltages of individual power supplies can be adjusted to achieve better phase balancing. Phase imbalance can be corrected by a bus bar or wire carrying enough load to correct phase imbalance.

  • Patent number: 8270188
Abstract: Systems and methods for efficient three-phase auxiliary power supply for low power applications are disclosed herein. The system includes a capacitor divider circuit that can leverage electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter capacitors utilized in a main power converter. Further, three low voltage capacitors, connected in a star configuration (for a three-phase four-wire input) or a delta connection (for a three-phase three-wire input), can be utilized in the capacitor divider circuit. Additionally or alternatively, multiple high voltage capacitors can be paralleled. The capacitor divider circuit generates a low voltage alternate current (AC) signal that can be converted to a corresponding low voltage direct current (DC) signal by employing a rectifier circuit. Due to the three-phase input, the output DC signal has a very low output ripple voltage.

Abstract: The Universal Power Inlet System, or UPIS, is a method of providing universal attachment of 3 different types of electrical power systems into the input circuitry of a Power Distribution Unit, or PDU. This method allows use of either fixed or detachable power cord options permitting the PDU to be powered by any of the following types of electrical power sources: 3-Phase Delta, 3-Phase Star (or Wye) and Single-Phase. This method also describes a way to uniquely identify the specific power system the mentioned PDU is currently attached to. The method also optionally allows derivation of supplementary information about the electrical power system such as current capacity, or ampacity, of the power cord being used. All this information can be used for capacity monitoring and reporting as well as protection of PDU circuitry and power cords.

Plural pulse-width modulators are provided with analog information as to the amount of power to be supplied to each phase load and the width of the power pulse to that load is adjusted accordingly.

  • Patent number: 3991359
Abstract: A system for providing a desired energizing current, according to a reference current signal, to a load or group of load elements. Three phase energizing current is rectified by a plurality of controlled switching devices such as thyristors, and apparatus is provided for varying the firing angle of the thyristors in accordance with the reference current signal to regulate the resulting output voltage therefrom and thereby regulate the energizing current through the load.
