  • Patent number: 6129431
Abstract: A modular shelving system includes one or more downward flanges fixed against a wall near a ceiling and a series of vertical sections that extend perpendicularly to the wall. Each vertical section is locked in place by positioning it against the wall and then raising it off the floor until an upward flange on the vertical section engages a downward flange. The wall section is raised off the floor through the use of a built-in riser in the base of the wall section. Once all the vertical sections are locked in place, shelves, cabinet faces, desktops, or the like are secured to the vertical sections to create the desired system. The riser in the base of the vertical section may consist of a foot on the bottom of a threaded rod that engages a threaded aperture in a frame within the vertical section. Hexagonal surfaces on the rod make it easier to apply the necessary force to rotate the rod and thereby raise or lower the foot with respect to the frame.

Abstract: A wall rail system includes a cabinet rail having a base portion and a hook portion which projects away and downwardly from the base portion, the front of the cabinet rail being free of sharp edges, and an elongate wall rail including a base portion and a hook portion which projects away and downwardly from the base portion, with the front of the elongate wall rail also being free of sharp edges, whereby the front of the cabinet rail can smoothly slide over the front of the wall rail and guide the hook portion of the cabinet rail into a channel defined by the base portion and hook portion of the elongate wall rail during installation of a cabinet unit. The absence of sharp edges on the fronts of the wall rail and cabinet provide easier installation and reduce the potential for damage to walls and/or cabinet units by inadvertent contact with the rails during installation.

Abstract: Communications cable is routed within horizontal pathways between the structural ceiling and drop ceiling to a fire-resistant cabinet mounted between the ceilings. Communication cable switching and termination equipment is carried by the cabinet for providing a consolidation point and cross-connect location for both copper wire and optical fiber cables serving work stations within an open office architecture. The cabinet includes an access door opening into a room below the drop ceiling for providing user access to the equipment. The door lies within the drop ceiling plane when in the closed position. A removable equipment mounting plate is carried by the cabinet for lowering the equipment below the drop ceiling when the door is in the open position. Cabinet fire-resistant side wall penetrations permits the communications cable routed between the ceilings to enter and exit the cabinet for connection with the communications cable switching and termination equipment.
