  • Patent number: 7843689
Abstract: A fire resistant and water resistant enclosure for an operable computer digital data storage device is provided. The enclosure has walls made of gypsum or concrete and, in one embodiment, has two small ventilation openings which remain open during normal operation of the digital data storage device and during the presence of fire. This embodiment has no moving parts. In the presence of fire, air and superheated steam from inside the enclosure expand and flow outwardly through the ventilation passageways. As those gases flow outwardly, they simultaneously block or prevent the transfer of heat from the exterior fire inwardly through those passageways. A water resistant pouch or coating surrounding the storage device prevents damage from flood, water, steam generated by the insulation or smoke from passing through said passageways and damaging the storage device.

Abstract: A fireproof container with heat activated panel is presented. The invention includes a fireproof container and panel, compression pins, and heat sensitive pin. Fireproof panel is disposed adjacent to vent holes located along the fireproof container and separated there from so as to allow airflow into the container. Compression pins are disposed between and attached to both container and panel so as to apply a mechanical load onto the panel directed towards the container. Heat sensitive pin is disposed between and attached to both container and panel so as to oppose the mechanical load applied by the compression pins when the temperature of the surrounding environment is below a threshold temperature. Heat sensitive pin yields to the mechanical load when the surrounding environment exceeds the threshold temperature, thereby enabling contact between panel and container so as to interrupt airflow into the enclosure.

Abstract: A fire-resistant container for use as a safe. The container is formed of steel and is lined on its inner surface with fire-resistant materials. The preferred fire-resistant materials include mineral-filled paper-faced sheet material, commonly known as “sheetrock,” “gypsum board,” or “drywall.” The sheet material is provided in various thicknesses depending upon the location within the container. An air space is also provided between the fire-resistant materials and the wall. A front wall of the container is formed with an offset jamb for receiving a safe door having a conventional combination lock controlling a plurality of livebolts which are engaged behind a flange formed in the jamb. The door is fitted with fire resistant materials in similar fashion to the container walls, preferably magnesium board, and the jamb is gasketed in intumescent material.

Abstract: An adjustable support carries a workpiece in a manner that allows convenient welding. An enclosure having opposed half-round ends and a rounded half cylinder body defines an insulated workpiece cavity. The enclosure supports a hinged cover having a frame within which slides first and second sliding doors which allow an opening of variable size and location to be formed for access to the workpiece cavity. A frame provides a base from which extend left and right forks which are pivotally attached to opposed middle portions of the enclosure. A locking pivot allows the angle between the forks and the enclosure to be adjusted and fixed as desired. A support insert, extending from the base of the frame, may be attached to a support mounted in a work area, heating area or cooling area. A locking pivot allows the angle between the support insert and the enclosure to be adjusted and fixed as desired.

  • Patent number: 6158833
Abstract: A thermally insulated cabinet is provided for protecting electronic data storage devices from damage by accidental and environmental conditions and from intentional acts. This cabinet provides an interior envelope which contains a data storage device surrounded by multiple layers of thermal insulation. The thermal insulation layers allow electrical power, data and device control cabling to access the device, thus permitting real time operation of the device while the device is contained within the inner envelope. The inner envelope has two vertically separated ends: a lower end and an upper end. The data storage device is affixed to the inner envelope to permit heated air to rise from the lower end of the inner envelope away from the location of the device. The inner chamber is dimensioned to permit the heat generated by operation of the data storage device to dissipate and to maintain stable thermal conditions within the inner envelope during normal use.
