Abstract: An integral spark plug coil comprising a step-up coil within a canister which canister is mounted to a unique double-walled container. The container fits over the neck of the spark plug and is secured to the shell of the spark plug. An inner ceramic bushing is arranged within a metal sleeve defining the outer wall of the container. The space adjacent the neck of the spark plug is in communication with the exterior of the metal sleeve through the small quenched space defined by the inner diameter of the sleeve and the outer diameter of the ceramic bushing and through ports in the sleeve located generally outward of the terminal end of the neck of the spark plug.
Abstract: An integral spark plug coil comprising a step-up coil within a canister which canister is mounted to an aircraft-type spark plug. The canister is secured to the barrel of the spark plug. A ceramic bushing having a hub-like shape is arranged within a metal sleeve defining part of the outer wall of the canister. The space adjacent the recessed terminal of the spark plug is in communication with ports in the metal sleeve through the small quenched space defined in part by an axial face of the ceramic bushing.
Abstract: A spark plug for internal combustion engines includes at least a part of communicating holes each having one end opened in the vicinity of a packing and the other end opened to an engine combustion chamber, whereby the propagation of the flame into the space defined by the outer surface of an insulator leg, the inner surface of a metal plug body and the packing is prevented.
Abstract: An electrical igniter has two electrodes separated over the bore of a semiconductive annular element. One electrode is mounted at the operative tip of the igniter and has an orifice through which the bore opens from the igniter. A capillary tube extends from a supply of liquid, such as water or a hydrocarbon fuel, and opens into the cavity formed by the bore and the orifice. Small quantities of liquid are introduced into the cavity via the tube and electrical energy is applied to the electrodes to cause discharge within the cavity. The discharge causes a plasma to be ejected through the orifice, for igniting a fuel-air mixture externally of the igniter. The discharge causes vaporization and molecular disruption of liquid present in the cavity that increases the concentration of low activation energy species within the plasma and thereby improves the efficiency of ignition.
Abstract: A secondary air guide ring for an ignition plug, which is mounted on the outer periphery of a male thread of an ignition plug for mounting the same ignition plug in a cylinder head and provides a hermetical seal between the ignition plug and cylinder head. It is provided with an air guide hole for leading air into the cylinder and also with a check valve mechanism serving to prevent counter flow of gas.
Abstract: A spark plug including an air supplying system which supplies enough air to an internal-combustion engine to promote the required degree of combustion of the fuel in the engine and produces little carbon which might block the ventilation of air. The air supply system includes a removable filtering device for eliminating dust.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in breaking wood, such as wood splitting and tree felling, for causing the wood to break under the influence of a force acting on the cutting surfaces of a notch in the wood, such as a saw notch. The wood breaking force is produced by means of an inflatable cushion which is inserted in a flattened state into the saw notch and connected to the combustion chamber of the cylinder of the power saw motor to be inflated with compressed gas from the combustion chamber. Also disclosed is a special spark plug for the power saw motor for use in supplying the compressed gas from a combustion chamber to the inflatable cushion.
Abstract: A plug for use in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine adapted to limit the production of nitrogen oxide (NOx). The plug has an inner cover which surrounds the ignition electrodes with the inner cover having an opening to provide communication between the electrodes and the engine cylinder. An outer cover surrounds the inner cover in spaced relation therewith and has an opening in juxtaposition with the inner cover opening. The outer cover has a number of perforations so that water injected between the inner and outer covers through one or more nozzles is evaporated into steam upon engagement with the red-hot outer cover with the steam passing through the perforations into the cylinder in a direction away from the electrodes so as not to interfere with the functioning of the electrodes.
