Abstract: In a color cathode ray tube in which a shadow mask and an inner magnetic shield are supported by a mask frame and an electron shield is provided in the mask frame, at least a part of the electron shield is made to have a smaller anhysteretic magnetic permeability than the shadow mask, the mask frame and the inner magnetic shield when an applied magnetic field is 800 A/m (10 Oe). Since the magnetic resistance of the electron shield increases, it is possible to reduce a leakage magnetic field from a tube-axis-side edge of the electron shield. Thus, a color cathode ray tube that reduces mis-landing due to a terrestrial magnetism and has no color displacement can be provided.

Abstract: Disclosed is a color cathod ray tube which can effectively improve impact resistance by setting a ratio of a curvature coefficient (a/b) of the shadow mask for a long axis to be in a range of about 100,000-135,000, and by setting a ratio of a curvature coefficient (c/d) of the shadow mask for a short axis to be in a range of about 60,000-360,000. Also, in defining ratios between a curvature radius of a center portion of the shadow mask and curvatures radiuses along a horizontal direction, a vertical direction, and a diagonal direction, the curvature radius decreases towards the peripheral portions of the shadow mask, thereby improving impact resistance and drop characteristics and thus effectively preventing color purity from being degraded.

Abstract: In present day color display tubes (1) the microphony performance of the shadow mask (13) is becoming increasingly important, especially in color display tubes (1) with a flat or nearly flat outer side of the display window (3). This invention discloses a mask frame (14) which by means of the transfer of vibrations from the outside of the color display tube (1) to the shadow mask (13) is hampered. This makes the shadow mask (13) less sensitive to vibrations, leading to an improved performance with respect to color purity. This object is achieved by providing the diaphragm parts (15), which form a part of the mask frame (14), with indents (27). Preferably, the skirt (19) of the shadow mask (13) is connected to the diaphragm part 15 by providing one spot weld (28) in between each pair of adjacent indents (27).

Abstract: The invention relates to a flat color CRT in which the upper plate width of a frame for tensioning and fixing a shadow mask is enlarged so that the CRT is free from an influence from howling of the shadow mask and welding and productivity of the shadow mask and the frame may be simplified. The shadow mask assembly comprises a shadow mask having an effective area with slots and a non-effective area without slots in the periphery; and a frame fixing body for tensioning the shadow mask; wherein the shortest distance tM from the outermost end of a main frame welded to the shadow mask to the interface between the effective area and the non-effective area and the width tW of the mask welding part formed at the upper part of the main frame have the relation of 0.14 ≤ t W t M ≤ 1.0 .

Abstract: The present invention provides a color cathode ray including a pair of long frames, a pair of opposing short frames that are fixed to the pair of long frames and support the long frames, and a shadow mask fixed to the pair of long frames in a state applied with a tensile force. The short frames have substantially-triangular bent parts formed to protrude toward the shadow mask. Since such a cathode ray tube can decrease an internal moment of the shadow mask structure, the displacement of the shadow mask in a direction to recede from the phosphor screen surface of the color cathode ray tube can be suppressed and the q-value deviation also can be suppressed even if the shadow mask is expanded by heat generated by an impact of electron beams.

Each of the strands has a substantially continuous insulating material layer formed on a screen-facing side thereof. A plurality of cross-wires are oriented substantially perpendicular to the plurality of strands and are bonded thereto by the insulating material layer. The plurality of cross-wires are bonded to busbars (located at opposite ends of the focus mask) with a resistive coating that has adhesive properties.

Abstract: A method and apparatus of maintaining spacing between tension focus mask strands in a tension focus mask. The method includes providing a tension focus mask comprising busbars with crosswires connected therebetween. A permanent adhesive is applied to the screen-side of the mask strands. Next, novel non-permanent horizontal guide members are attached to the gun-side of the mask strands, where an adhesive is applied to the guide member before the guide members are applied to the mask. The guide members maintain the vertical mask strand spacing during: (1) the application of the horizontal crosswires to the screen-side of the mask and (2) the subsequent thermal processing. The thermal processing cures the adhesive on the screen-side of the mask, thereby: (1) permanently attaching the crosswires to the mask strands and (2) volatilizing the adhesive on the gun-side of the mask strands such that the non-permanent guide member detach from the mask strands.

The cathode ray tube comprises a shadow mask having an effective area where lines of apertures for passing electron beams are arranged and a dead space formed on both outer sides of the effective area. In the dead space, a slit extending along the lines of the apertures is formed. Accordingly, the thermal expansion of the dead space caused by a temperature increase can be reduced, and the stress applied to the aperture line of the effective area adjacent to the dead space can be suppressed. As a result, the local doming phenomenon can be prevented from occurring.
