    Abstract: A plasma-treatment instrument for treating a surface with a dielectric-barrier plasma field generated between an electrode and the surface has a high a.c. voltage supplied to the electrode by a controller. The electrode forms with a dielectric surrounding the electrode a cylindrical roller that is rotatably supported in a grip housing. The plasma-treatment instrument has a shell surface and is capable of being rolled along the surface. The plasma-treatment allows an efficient and safe treatment of the surface by virtue of the fact that the electrode includes at least two partial electrodes arranged alongside one another at equal intervals from the shell surface and which are insulated from one another by the dielectric. The at least two partial electrodes are connected to different terminals of a source of high a.c. voltage.

To the top of the coating, a film which has light absorbing characteristics and contains an adhesive is adhered. The light absorption by the coating is large at the central portion of the panel and is small at the peripheral portion of the panel. The light absorption characteristics of the film is approximately uniform on the entire surface of the panel. Due to such a constitution, a color picture tube having a flat external surface, the least brightness difference and an excellent contrast can be realized.

    Abstract: Bacteria cells and/or spores are collected and concentrated to form a specimen that is lysed using an ionized fluid to facilitate identification of the bacterial cells or spores by tests performed on the DNA and RNA contained therein. An impact collector is preferably used for separating the spores and cells from an air sample that is drawn through an input port of a portable housing. The resulting specimen is then exposed to an ionizing discharge that ruptures the surface membrane of the bacterial cells or spores. The ionizing discharge can be produced by a Tesla coil or other potential transformer that is electrically energized to produce an ionization potential, which is applied to an electrode, or to produce a corona glow discharge spread over a relatively larger surface of a plate-type electrode. Alternatively, air or another gaseous fluid in proximity to the electrode may be ionized by the ionizing potential or discharge from the electrode, forming an ionized fluid that is applied to the specimen.
