  • Patent number: 7724214
Abstract: Set-up, write, sustain and erase pulses are variously applied to a plasma display panel using a staircase waveform in which the rising or falling portion is in at least two steps. These staircase waveforms can be realized by adding at least two pulses. Use of such waveforms for the set-up, write and erase pulses improves contrast, and use for the sustain pulses reduces screen flicker and improves luminous efficiency. This is of particular use in driving high definition plasma display panels to achieve high image quality and high luminance.

Abstract: A voice circuit is arranged on a chassis member. The voice circuit comprises a voice output amplifier and a high-frequency bypass unit. An output terminal of the voice output amplifier is connected to one end of a voice coil in a speaker through an interconnection, and is grounded through a high-frequency bypass unit. The voice output amplifier supplies a voice current to the voice coil through an interconnection. The resonance frequency of the high-frequency bypass unit is set to the same frequency as that of a discharge current flowing in the chassis member. A high-frequency induced current generated in the voice circuit due to the discharge current flowing in the chassis member flows to a ground terminal through the high-frequency bypass unit.

The planar light source generating apparatus forms an emitting layer not only on a plurality of cathodes but on a plurality of gates as well. Moreover, an anode of the planar light source generating apparatus is electrically connected to a current sensor for reading out a maximum current density when the planar light source generating apparatus operates. To operate the planar light source generating apparatus, a DC square voltage is applied to the cathodes (or gates) while the gates (or the cathodes) are electrically connected to a ground. Once the current density detected by the current sensor drops to a definite ratio of the maximum value, the external voltage supplying the aforementioned cathodes and the gates are switched. Thus, the life span of the planar light source generating apparatus is prolonged.

The driving circuit includes a power recovery unit, a sustain discharge voltage supply, and a gate voltage supply. The power recovery unit includes an inductor coupled between the first electrode and a capacitor, and increases/decreases the voltage of the first electrode by electrically coupling the inductor and the capacitor. The sustain discharge voltage supply includes a first transistor and a second transistor that couple the first electrode to a supply voltage and to ground. In case of damage to a circuit element, a current is established, through a Zener diode, coupled between the capacitor and the gate voltage supply, that disconnects the supply of voltage to gate drivers of the circuit transistors and stops the operation of the driving circuit.

Abstract: A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel having discharge cells formed between a plurality of first electrodes and a plurality of second electrodes and a driving circuit dividing one frame into a plurality of subfields, each subfield including a reset period, an address period, and a sustain period, and applying a driving voltage to the first electrodes and the second electrodes. During a sustain period of each subfield, a sustain discharge pulse is alternately applied to the first and second electrodes for triggering a sustain discharge. A width of a last sustain discharge pulse applied to the second electrode is set to be greater than a width of other sustain discharge pulses for selected subfields. The subfields may be selected based on whether a total number of the sustain discharge pulses during the sustain period is less than a critical number of sustain discharge pulses.

Abstract: There is provided a light emitting device capable of preventing light emission of an OLED caused due to an off current of a driver TFT and suppressing a reduction in a contrast, to thereby display a beautiful image. A wiring which is kept at a predetermined potential (hereinafter referred to as a discharge line) is provided to make the off current flow into the discharge line rather than into the OLED. A TFT such as is turned on when the driver TFT is tuned off (hereinafter referred to as a discharging TFT) is provided in each pixel. With respect to the source region and the drain region of the discharging TFT, one is connected with a pixel electrode and the other is connected with the discharge line. According to the above structure, when the driver TFT is turned off, the discharging TFT is turned on. Thus, the off current in the driver TFT actively flows into the discharge line rather than into the OLED.
