Compensating Windings Patents (Class 322/66)
  • Patent number: 7170263
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling an on-vehicle generator is provided. The apparatus comprises a switching element, current detecting unit, setting unit and driving unit. The switching unit turns on/off an exciting current to an exciting winding of the generator, the switching element being driven responsively to a driving signal having an adjustable duty ratio. The setting unit sets the duty ratio based on (i) a difference between an output voltage of the generator and a target voltage value and (ii) a condition in which an electric load is disconnected from the generator, wherein the duty ratio is allowed to lower than a minimum value of the duty ratio depending on a generated state of the generator. The minimum value allows the exciting current to flow at a lower limit detectable by the current detecting unit, The driving unit drives the switching element based on the driving signal.

  • Patent number: 4885526
Abstract: A compensation circuit for electrical generators is disclosed. In an electrical generator, the electrical current generated in the armature coil induces a magnetic flux in the flux path of the generator. The compensating circuit of the invention includes a conductor that surrounds a portion of the flux path of the generator. This conductor known as the compensating coil, is supplied with a compensating circuit which has a reactive component. The compensating current induces a secondary magnetic flux that has a component that opposes the flux induced by the armature current. In a further embodiment of the invention, a twin generator--generator or twin generator--motor is employed. The compensating coil surrounds the flux path of one of the generators and the other generator or motor is used to supply compensating current to the compensating coil.

  • Patent number: 4841217
Abstract: A single phase, multipole alternator with inertial and/or electromagnetic energy storage is disclosed. More specifically, the present invention involves a high energy pulsed alternator which is capable of generating a variety of pulse signals by ready modification of the angle between the magnetic axes of the excitation field coil and the compensating coil or conducting shield.

  • Patent number: 4633160
Abstract: A self-excited brushless alternator having a rotating field excited by an alternating current exciter whose armature rotates with the field winding of the alternator and is permanently connected to that winding by a rotating field rectifier. To obtain reliable regulation over a wind range of load and power factors, at least one exciter stator primary winding is magnetically coupled to at least one exciter rotator secondary winding which is connected by the rectifier to the main field. Primary excitation direct current for the exciter is derived by a magnetic coupling from a rotary auxiliary magnetic field produced by a feedback winding connected in series with the main field winding and rotating therewith. Preferably, current paths for the exciter primary excitation are different during and after build-up.
