  • Patent number: 10637221
Abstract: A wall plate bracket includes integral straight edges used to quickly, easily and precisely define an area on a wall where a wall opening for the bracket is to be cut. The integral straight edges are formed along a top or bottom edge and a side edge of a generally rectangular front face plate of the bracket. The front face plate is held against a wall, and an L-shaped line is drawn along the straight edges. The bracket is then rotated 180 degrees and the ends of the straight edges are aligned at the ends of the previously drawn line. Another L-shaped line is then made or drawn along the straight edges, resulting in the two drawn L-shaped lines together forming a proper rectangle defining the wall opening to be cut.

  • Publication number: 20090229135
Abstract: The present invention is a special-pattern cutting tool for preparing mortises on the edges of wood door slabs and jambs to inset the various plates on standard door hardware. This wood-chisel type tool enables the finish carpenter to quickly cut an outline exactly matching the flat screw-plates that secure the hardware to the door-slab and jambs. The improvement is primarily the cut-pattern shape that incorporates a curved blade to match the rounded corners of said plates. Three variations of the tool comprise a set. Each one is intended to create an outline pattern matching the hinge plate, or the latch-bolt striker plate, or the latch-bolt/lock-bolt plunger plate according to the specifications of at least one manufacturer's door hardware products. Some industry standards do exist between manufacturers to enable competitive replacement of such hardware so the tools would be somewhat universal.

  • Patent number: 7299554
Abstract: A jig for face frame hinges may include a base and gripping members, wherein the jig may be secured to a frame member or a wall adapted to receive a hinge base plate and the hinge base plate may be abutted with a first hinge abutting edge of the jig. The gripping members may hold the jig in a selected position so that the hinge base may be abutted with the jig while fasteners are engaged through the base and into the frame member, or while holes are pre-drilled and fasteners engaged to mount the hinge base. The proper position may typically be with a second frame member abutting edge of the jig abutted with an adjacent adjoining frame member. Thus, the jig edges form stops for consistently and positively locating hinge bases of a face frame hinge at a predetermined distance from adjacent frame members.

Removably securable to the base plate is a reversible member or gate including adjustable end guides such that removal and reversal of the gate member permits the user to perform an identical mirror image operation on the second of two workpieces to be matched.

Abstract: A door template provides a "T-shaped" plate arrangement for use in conjunction with a router and a drill to form mounting recesses for hardware, and more particularly for cutting a mortise for a hinge and a strike plate in a door and/or door jam. The door template is formed from a base template plate orthogonally connected to a guide plate for engaging a door surface. The guide plate of the door template extends outwardly normal to the surface of the base template plate so as form a "T-shaped" configuration. The guide plate separates the base template plate into a first straight edge portion and an opposing outer edge having a first cutaway section in the shape of a door hinge leaf pattern. Another pair of cutaway sections form a pair of corresponding pattern slots defining a first pattern slot opening, and a second pattern slot opening offset from the first pattern slot opening, extending through the straight edge side of the base template plate for forming latch plate patterns.

Abstract: A dovetail tenon offset caliper includes a shoulder engagement member, a interior intersection point engagement member and a translation assembly for displacing the interior intersection point engagement member with respect to the shoulder engagement member to measure the offset necessary to construct a dovetail tenon to fit a particular dovetail mortise. The translation assembly is configured to displace the interior intersection point member with respect to the shoulder engagement member along a line substantially parallel to the mortise base to measure the perpendicular distance between a first plane perpendicular to the displacement line, the first plane containing the reference shoulder, and a second plane, parallel to the first plane and containing the intersection point, this distance being the dovetail tenon offset. The measured offset is used to position a dovetail cutting tool, such as a router bit.

Abstract: A hinge mortise cutter apparatus is adapted for cutting a hinge mortise into an edge of a door and includes a mortise outline cutter assembly which is placed on the edge of the door for cutting the mortise outline in the edge of the door. After the mortise outline is cut into the edge of the door, the mortise outline cutter assembly is removed from the door. The mortise outline has a predetermined length. Then, a screw-controlled mortise cutter assembly is placed over the mortise outline on the edge of the door and over a portion of two sides of the door adjacent to the edge, wherein a portion of the screw-controlled mortise cutter assembly is placed in registration with the mortise outline. Then, a screw-controlled blade assembly is advanced in a plane parallel to the edge below the edge so that a blade edge, which is part of the screw-controlled blade assembly, cuts out a mortise from the edge of the door.

Abstract: The present invention is an adjustable router template suitable for use in forming a stepped recess in a door with the cutting tool of a router. The adjustable template includes a first or lower plate having a lower template opening providing the cutting tool with access to the surface of the door to be cut and a second or upper plate having at least one upper template opening through which the cutting tool is initially inserted to reach the lower opening. The upper opening is more restrictive than the lower opening in limiting the surface area of the door that can be cut by the router. The recess can be cut with a step by adjusting the distance between the first and second plates and adjusting the longitudinal orientation of the upper opening relative to the lower opening.
