  • Patent number: 9539764
Abstract: A component includes a support structure made with an additive manufacturing process with a first end and a second end, and an object made with an additive manufacturing process with a first end and a second end, where the first end of the object is attached to the second end of the support structure. A cross-sectional area of the first end of the object is larger than a cross-sectional area of the second end of the support structure. A method of making an object, the method includes manufacturing a support structure with an additive manufacturing process. An object is manufactured on top of and connected to the support structure with an additive manufacturing process, wherein there is a witness mark created between the support structure and the object. The witness mark is identified. The object is separated from the support structure along the witness mark.

  • Patent number: 8296959
Abstract: Pipe cutting templates for marking cutting lines on pipes for subsequent connection to another pipe. A template includes a flexible magnetic sheet having a front surface and a rear magnetized surface for retaining the sheet on the pipe. The sheet has a pair of straight side edges parallel to each other and defining a width of the sheet, the width of the sheet corresponding to the diameter of the pipe such that, during use when the sheet is wrapped around the pipe, the side edges abut. The sheet additionally has a pair of opposed end edges. At least one of the end edges is contoured to serve as a guide for marking the pipe with a cutting line corresponding to the pipe diameter, at least one particular connection type, and at least one particular angle of connection.

  • Patent number: 6993848
Abstract: A pipe preparation device is disclosed for chamfering pipe ends and placing witness marks thereon to provide a visible indication that the pipes are properly engaged with a coupling. The device includes a body having co-axially aligned receptacles at opposite ends, the receptacles being sized to receive pipes having different diameters from one another. Cutting blades are mounted on the body and project into each receptacle. The blades have cutting edges that engage the end of a pipe inserted into a receptacle and cut a chamfer when the body is rotated relatively to the pipe. Two scoring tools project into each receptacle. The tools have contact surfaces that engage a pipe inserted into the receptacle. The tools in each receptacle are offset from one another and form two circumferential grooves around the pipe when the body and pipe are rotated relatively to each other. The grooves act as witness marks.

  • Patent number: 6804890
Abstract: A scribe and a method of using the scribe to mark a cutting guide on one conduit, while also using a second conduit as a guide, is disclosed. The scribe includes a pivot which rests on the outer surface on one conduit. The scribe also includes a scribe element which engages the outer surface of the one conduit. The scribe is moved along the outer surfaces of the two conduits and makes a mark on the one conduit that precisely follows the shape and size of the second conduit. The one conduit is cut along the mark and the second conduit will precisely and accurately fit to the one conduit. A method of coupling two conduits using this scribe is also disclose.

  • Patent number: 6470578
Abstract: A cylindrical column of light is formed by the reflection of a laser light plane radially emitted by a main laser light plane source at the inner, mirrored surface of a 45° projector cone. A conical column can be generated and projected by intercepting and reflecting the cylindrical column of light using a diverting cone inside the 45° projector cone. The cylindrical or conical laser light column is set to have the same geometric characteristics of an intended attachment. When the column is properly projected on a surface, it will form an outline representing the desired pattern of intersection of a cylindrical or conical attachment with the surface. The column of light is provided by an illuminator assembly that carries the main laser light plane source, the projector cone, and the diverting cone. The illuminator assembly is carried on a portable support stand.
