  • Patent number: 9820679
Abstract: A measurement device and method for measuring a portion of an animal's leg to more accurately and fairly determine the height setting required for a jump apparatus to be jumped by the animal. The device, which is particularly useful for measuring dogs for Flyball competitions, comprises an elongated body member and a sliding mechanism slidably attached thereto. The preferred body member has a curved cross-section. A preferred sliding mechanism comprises a slot disposed in the body member and a slide member that slidably engages the slot. In use, the body member is placed against the ulna of the dog's front leg with the first end of the body member positioned at the intersection of the ulna and the accessory carpal bone so a contact plate of the slide member can be slid against the elbow. A color coded and labeled chart on the body member provides the jump height setting.

Abstract: An apparatus and method provide for measurement at various positions over an extent of an uneven structural surface, and preparation of spacers, cut to appropriate thicknesses based upon such measurements, such that when affixed to the respective measurement locations, outer facing surfaces of the spacers are collectively coplanar. A method of aligning a surface includes defining a reference plane in a fixed condition relative to the structural surface, and determining a differential distance between the structural surface and the reference plane at various locations along an extend of the particular structural surface. Using these measurements, indexed according to location, spacers are cut to a thickness based upon the respective differential distances at corresponding locations, which, when mounted to the structural surface at these recorded locations, results in alignment of outwardly facing surfaces with a common plane. Advantageously, at least a portion of the processes is automated.

Abstract: An adjustable cutting template includes a plurality of leg members selectively engageable with each other for defining a cutting perimeter on a substantially solid surface. Each plurality of leg members includes a first portion and a second portion attached thereto and a plurality of holes formed therein and spaced along a length thereof. Select ones of the first and second portions define a plurality of male and female portions, respectively. The plurality of female portions include a plurality of lip portions integral therewith for receiving the plurality of male portions thereon so that same can be slidably positioned within the plurality of female portions. The template further includes a plurality of stop members attached to the plurality of leg members for defining a maximum distance that the plurality of leg members can be slidably engaged with each other.

  • Patent number: 6921675
Abstract: A device transfer method includes the steps of: covering a plurality of devices, which have been formed on a substrate, with a resin layer; forming electrodes in the resin layer in such a manner that the electrodes are connected to the devices; cutting the resin layer, to obtain resin buried devices each containing at least one of the devices; and peeling the resin buried devices from the substrate and transferring them to a device transfer body. This device transfer method is advantageous in easily, smoothly separating devices from each other, and facilitating handling of the devices in a transfer step and ensuring good electric connection between the devices and external wiring, even if the devices are fine devices.

  • Patent number: 6836969
Abstract: A hand held device for making measured markings. The device comprises a body having a bottom and a side surface with a butting surface connected to the body having a flat face perpendicular to the body to slidably butt against an edge of a work piece. A plurality of spaced guiding wells adjacent the side surface may receive a marking instrument point. The guiding wells simultaneously provide measurement and guidance for the marking instrument while the butting surface is slid along the edge of a work piece. A telescoping member having a flat top edge provides adjustable guidance for marking instrument as well. Reference markings on the telescoping member mark distance from the edge of the telescoping member to the butting surface. A fixing means may adjustably fix the relationship between the telescoping member and the body. The telescoping member is extendable to distance shown by the reference markings.

  • Patent number: 6769190
Abstract: An adjustable viewing frame (27) for use by artists to help compose a view comprises two frame members (10,11) each having two frame links (21,22,23,24) at right angles to one another. The frame links (21,22,23,24) have a rib (30) along one edge over which two C-shape clips (20) engage to hold the two frame members (10,11) together where they overlap. The force exerted by the clips (30) is sufficient to hold the two frame members (10,11) together against disturbances so that the frame (27) thus formed can be held in one hand for viewing purposes, but allows adjustments to be made easily by hand to change the size and/or relative proportions of the frame (27). A scale (40) marked on the frame member (10) allows specific relative proportions to be achieved with certainty and precision.

  • Patent number: 6591511
Abstract: An improved framing square having integral features for automating the marking and cutting of angles. The square contains two sliding carriages—one in the body and one in the blade. Each carriage has a deployable pin. In order to set an angle, the user first deploys the pins in each sliding carriage so that they protrude downward from the square. Next, the user sets the sliding carriage in the body to the desired position and locks it in place. The user then sets the sliding carriage in the blade to the desired position and locks it in place. The two pins protruding from the sliding carriages are then butted against the board to be cut. Once they are in place, the blade of the square will form the correct cutting angle across the board. Since many common cuts employ a twelve inch base leg, the invention includes another feature: Rather than set the sliding carriage within the body to twelve inches, the user may opt instead to deploy a fixed pin located in the body at the twelve inch position.

  • Patent number: 6564464
Abstract: A gauge and a method for using the gauge, measures the Frankfurt Mandibular Angle (FMA) non-invasively, without the use of x-rays. The gauge has an upper bar that, in use, parallels the patient's porion-orbitale line. A downward bar depends from the upper bar and has an adjustably attached lower bar. The lower bar is adjusted to parallel the patient's gonion-menton line. Once the gauge is properly adjusted to the patient and locked into place, the user reads a measuring device on the gauge, which indicates the relative positions of the components of the adjusted gauge. These reading are then correlated, directly or indirectly, to the patient's FMA.
