Patent number: 8776654Abstract: The invention is includes a series of dimensional scales (linear measuring device) on the top surface of a miter saw table. The scales allow for measurements to be located or obtained on the saw table relative to the saw fence and relative to the saw blade. The scales may replace the need for a hand held tape measure or ruler for measuring or marking the saw table surface when cutting crown molding or other materials. The scales could be placed on or in a saw during production by a manufacturer. The scales could be placed on or in a material to be placed on a saw during production by a manufacturer. The scales could be placed on or in a material to be placed on an existing saw.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2010Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Inventor: Timothy J. Glomb, Sr.

Patent number: 7284340Abstract: A tool for measuring movement of a strand of a chain extending between sprockets in a direction substantially transverse to the length of the strand, for example a primary motorcycle chain extending between a clutch sprocket and an engine compensating sprocket, wherein the movement of the chain needs to be adjusted at intervals, includes a handle section by which the tool is held and manipulated by a user. A chain engaging section is joined to the handle by an indicator section so that a user holding the handle can manipulate the chain engaging section to engage the strand of chain whose movement is to be measured. Movement of the tool will then move the chain. Indicia on the indicator section is usable to determine the movement of the chain. The tool can also be used to measure the tension of a belt or other material.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2005Date of Patent: October 23, 2007Inventor: Victor Iverson

Patent number: 7125385Abstract: An instrument for measuring the size of a testis has a pair of relatively displaceable jaws with testis contacting surfaces. The spacing between the jaws is displayed on a scale calibrated to a recommenced dose of a chemical sterilant at a given concentration for the testis measured for sterilizing a male animal having scrotal testes. The instrument is used to determine the appropriate dose to be administered the animal, each testis of which should be independently measured as the size of the testicles may different in the same animal.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2003Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Assignee: Technology Transfer, Inc.Inventor: Min Wang

Patent number: 6964112Abstract: A device for measuring and marking lines and points on a steel I-beam includes a rib for contacting the outside of an I-beam flange along a line opposite the center of the beam web, a measuring blade that rests on the beam web and measures distances from the outside of the flange, and a bridge for connecting the measuring blade to the rib in a way in which the measuring blade is held perpendicular to the flange. The device marks I-beams faster and more accurately that was possible using prior art tools and techniques.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2005Date of Patent: November 15, 2005Inventor: James T. Caudle

Patent number: 6785979Abstract: Apparatus and method for measuring cables of varying diameters to be used in a wire bundle. The apparatus involves a support platform having a groove formed therein which is laid out to have at least one U-shaped turnaround portion. The groove is further canted such that it opens at an angle of about 4.85° away from an interior area defined by the U-shaped arc. This allows cables of varying diameters to be placed in the groove during measuring and automatically compensates for the differences in diameter of the cables. Thus, each cable laid into the groove and measured in accordance with the length of the groove will have the same length, regardless of differences in the diameters of the cables.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2002Date of Patent: September 7, 2004Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: Thomas M. Publication number: 20020124665Abstract: A securing arrangement for transporting and mounting a measuring system used for the determination of the position of two components, which can be moved relative to each other. The securing arrangement includes a base body, which is linearly displaced along a displacement direction via a guide track of a support body of a measuring graduation of the measuring system and is fixed in place on the support body by clamping forces in order to maintain a mounting base that fastens a scanning device to one of the two components in a desired position in relation to the support body. A service element is provided on the base body and having an operating section for introducing and/or canceling the clamping forces, wherein the operating section of the service element laterally protrudes past a surface of the base body which faces away from the support body and is laterally bordered by a lateral edge, when the base body is fastened on the support body.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 20, 2002Publication date: September 12, 2002Inventors: Sebastian Tondorf, Stefan Kuhnhauser, Peter Niedermeier

Patent number: 5988242Abstract: A router and other cutting tools with a fixed center such as drills, shapers, milling machines, etc., used for cutting wood, metal or other materials, is provided with a fence mechanism for either a table or the base of a portable tool, for rapid and easy settings of the fence with respect to the center of the cutting tool. This is accomplished by a pivot mounting of the fence on a table or on a portable tool base, with respect to a block pivoted to the table or tool base, wherein the center of the pivot for the block and the center for the pivot for the fence are on opposite sides of the cutting tool and located on a line which passes through the tool center and the respective pivot locations. The desired spacing of the fence to the tool can be achieved using accurate spacers between the fence and the block, even with the tool being mounted in place.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1999Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Inventor: John E. Patent number: 5560408Abstract: A plate-like guide for precisely positioning a plunge router for the purpose of boring a series of holes in a work piece. The plunge router is provided with a guide bushing having an outside diameter, centrally positioned in the router working face, through which the router cutter can be pushed (plunged). The boring guide is provided with a series of spaced pilot holes positioned on a center line. The inside diameters of the pilot holes are a close sliding fit with the outside diameter of the router guide bushing. The boring guide has five positioning means usable in pairs to precisely position the boring guide with respect to the workpiece. There are two groups of fence holes into which fence pins are screwed to provide a step variable fence for positioning the pilot holes with respect to the working edge of the work piece. There is a centering notch for aligning the boring guide with a centerline drawn on the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1995Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Inventor: Charles DiFranco

Patent number: 5375636Abstract: A pocket joint cutter system for forming a pocket cut and fastener bore into a workpiece. The pocket cut and fastener bore receives a fastener such as a self-tapping screw which passes through the bore and into a second workpiece for forming a Joint between the two workpieces. The head of the fastener is held within the pocket cut in order to secure the joint. In one preferred form of the present invention, a workpiece system secures the workpiece in a predetermined position and forms the pocket cut and fastener bore into the workpiece. This preferred embodiment further comprises a bench-mounting system coupled to the workpiece system for securing the system to a bench. Using this embodiment of the present invention, the system can be mounted to a bench, and the workpiece can be brought to the system and held in position while the user forms the pocket cut and fastener bore.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1993Date of Patent: December 27, 1994Assignee: Porter-Cable CorporationInventors: Donald R.
