  • Patent number: 10549395
Abstract: A hand tool enabling self-aligned placement and post alignment clamping of a surface mounted tooling element and a method for manufacturing such a tool. Using an additive manufacturing process, a tool housing may be manufactured in which one or more internal voids allow insertion and rotational movement along and about a longitudinal axis of the housing, respectively, of a member having a radially extending portion. A handle and a brace may be coupled to the proximal and distal ends of the member to facilitate operation of the tool and placement of the surface mounted tooling element, respectively. Such member may also be spring loaded to enable the tool to clamp itself to a workpiece during the mounting operation, with the radially extending member portion limiting rotational travel of the brace.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying locations for holes for a stackup of parts. In one illustrative example, a required edge distance for a hole for the stackup of the parts is identified. A measurement tool is selected based on the required edge distance identified for the hole. The measurement tool comprises a circular section having an edge and an indicator centrally located with respect to the edge of the circular section. The edge of the circular section of the measurement tool is associated with a part in the stackup of the parts. • Patent number: 8925214
Abstract: An alignment system and method for aligning a hole-making device for forming a hole in the ground. In one example, the alignment system includes an alignment template selectively securable to the ground; and a centering plate positionable within the alignment template, the centering plate having a hole adapted to be positioned on a survey pin or nail or other mark. The alignment template is aligned relative to desired marked hole location, and the hole making device is aligned relative to the template, which thereby aligns the hole making device relative to the marked hole location.

  • Patent number: 8844440
Abstract: A marking system for cutting an aperture for pipe clearance has a pipe and a pipe stamp. A stamp posterior side has a posterior aperture fluidly connected to an interior cavity. A first rubber stamp projection has an annulus that projects out and away from the stamp anterior surface. A second rubber stamp projection is centrally located on the stamp anterior surface having a general shape of an “X”. The pipe stamp slides over an end of the pipe via the posterior aperture. The first rubber stamp projection and the second rubber stamp projection are placed against a surface for applying a mark for cutting an aperture for pipe clearance.

  • Publication number: 20030121164
Abstract: A method and apparatus that will locate the center of a circle in a single operation by positioning two points of registration at the edge of the circle relative to a third point of registration previously set at the edge of the circle where these points are held in accurate spatial relationship to each other and a fourth point of registration that in turn, indicates the center of the circle. By allowing precise registration and novel operation, this invention provides a simpler, more accurate means to locate the center of a circle that precludes the need to make extraneous marks on the circle being measured.

  • Patent number: 6158137
Abstract: The center locator tool has a flat, rectangular case with a top wall, a bottom wall, and two opposing side walls. The interior of the case houses a spur gear rotatably mounted on a center post extending through the center of the case, the center post having a bore defined axially therein. A pair of arms are mounted so that the arms are slidable through the case on opposite sides of the spur gear, each arm having a rack defined in its edge which engages the spur gear so that when one arm is extended from the case, the other arm is extended an equal distance in the opposite direction. Each arm has a groove defined in its bottom surface for engaging a guide projecting from the bottom wall of the case. The end of each arm has a work engaging plate forming a "V" shape, the opening of the "V" facing towards the center of the tool, the plates depending from the ends of the arms and being adapted for engaging a square or circular workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5979068
Abstract: A gauge is disclosed to grid in the location of sprinkler lines above grid type suspended ceilings. The gauge is used after the grid is installed but before the overhead sprinkler system is completed and before the ceiling tiles are installed. The gauge includes a plurality of arms, preferably three which have lengths approximating 1/2 of the grid opening dimension and are all pivotal and extendable, if necessary to engage the grid system and locate a central body to which the arms are secured. When extended, the arms define the center of the grid opening. An extendable arm is secured to the central body and may be manually extended upward to locate the center of the grid opening at the structural support for the sprinkler distribution system. A drop branch line from the distribution system at the location identified by the gauge is installed and a sprinkler head attached to the drop branch line.
