Abstract: Apparatus for gauging surface profile of a workpiece comprises means for maintaining under tension an element which extends at least over the length of the surface to be gauged and which is effective to provide a reference surface against which the surface under test can be compared for gauging, a displacement transducer effective to produce a signal representative of the separation between the surfaces together with means adapted to support the transducer for traverse along the length of the surface to be gauged.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining the geometrical position of peripheral points of bodies, especially of bodies of rotation, is disclosed. The points are measured relative to an axis of the bodies by a sensing gauge head. The head is preferably carried on an upper carriage of two carriages that move at right angles with respect to one another. The sensing gauge head carries a stretched wire which serves as a measuring face. When the measuring wire makes contact with the body to be measured, an electric circuit is closed to trigger an optical signal. Acoustic and/or motor controlling signals may also be triggered by the contact with the body. A contact brush may also be provided on the sensing gauge head to warn the operator that contact with the measuring wire is imminent.
Abstract: The invention relates to a measuring installation for measuring the machine profile of a continuous casting machine. A strand-like body of elastically deformable material, e.g. rubber or plastics, corresponding to the nominal machine profile is insertable into the roller conveyor of the continuous casting machine. Into the strand-like body at least one measuring device is embedded, which device measures and/or records the actual machine profile, i.e. the clear distance between rollers lying opposite each other or the distance of each roller from the neutral fiber of the strand-like body. The invention also relates to a method of measuring the machine profile of a continuous casting machine, which method consists in that after an exact alignment of the individual rollers in accordance with the nominal machine profile, i.e.
