Abstract: In forming magnetic blocks, a first permanent magnet may be lowered to the bottom of an upwardly open vessel, the vessel may be already filled or may be then filled with liquid and, while forcefully maintaining the first permanent magnet in that position, further permanent magnets are gradually inserted into the vessel in a direction perpendicular to their resulting joint contact surfaces, where the adjacent surfaces of the superimposed permanent magnets have an opposite polarity, while during insertion of a further permanent magnet, the liquid is drained from the space in the vessel under that inserted magnet, whereby the motion speed of the inserted magnet is controlled as it bears down on the permanent magnet lying beneath it.

Abstract: Systems and methods are providing for aligning an accessory to an electronic device interface. In particular, some accessories such as optical filters and lens require specific alignment to operative properly. Using a first magnet array positioned around the periphery of the interface and a second magnet array positioned within the accessory, a user can position an accessory on the electronic device and rotate the accessory until the magnets of each array exert a force on an opposing magnet of the other array. By distributing the magnets in a manner that includes no repeating segments, only a single alignment of the accessory relative to the interface can allow the magnet arrays to be properly in opposition.

Abstract: The incidence of half-select errors during MRAM programming has been significantly reduced by giving the free layer a shape that approximates an X so that, when the free layer switches, the magnetization in the arms of the X guides the magnetization in the central section (the X's intersection area) causing it to rotate towards the hard axis in two opposing directions. This raises the free layer's switching energy barrier, thereby reducing half-select errors.

  • Patent number: 7221247
Abstract: A microelectrical mechanical system (MEMS) actuator having electrically conductive coils that create first magnetic fields that are opposed by a second magnetic field is disclosed. The actuator includes two coils having dual, interspersed Archimedean spirals. Within an actuator, one coil is arranged with spirals that proceed clockwise, while the other coil is provided with spirals that proceed counterclockwise. An electrically conductive bridge mechanically couples the two coils of each actuator to a mirror. Opposing magnetic fields are created to provide a force that urges the coils to expand so that the outermost portions of the coil extend upward, away from the substrate, and lift the bridge and mirror. Control current may then be modulated to increase and decrease the coil's magnetic field strength thereby increasing and decreasing the coil's extension to raise and lower relative to the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6877497
Abstract: An ignition coil cassette having bushings retained by an irregularity of the bushings being encased by epoxy. As a result, the process by which the bushings are installed into the ignition coil cassette avoids the cost associated with the overmolding installation process, and further avoids the potential for damage associated with the ultrasonic insertion process. The irregularity is located generally adjacent one end of each of the bushings and may be, for example, in the form of an undercut or a protrusion.

  • Patent number: 6772743
Abstract: An emission control valve is operated by an electric actuator that has an electric coil, stator structure, and a positioning mechanism, including an armature that is selectively positionable along an axis, for selectively positioning a valve element. The stator structure is separated from the armature by an air gap that includes a non-ferromagnetic guide sleeve that is in surface-to-surface contact with the armature for guiding armature motion along the axis. The guide sleeve and the stator structure are in surface-to-surface contact for mutually concentricity with the axis. Along a region of mutual overlapping a minimum air gap is provided between the guide sleeve and the stator structure by radial spacing between the stator structure and the guide sleeve. Various embodiments are disclosed.
