  • Patent number: 11705788
Abstract: The present disclosure envisages an electromagnetic drive unit. The drive unit comprises a magnet having a north pole surface, a south pole surface, an operative top surface and an operative bottom surface. A coil having a pair of terminals is assembled on the magnet and hingeably coupled to the magnet, wherein a hingeable movement of the coil with respect to the magnet provides a reciprocating mechanical drive to the magnet. The hingeable movement of the coil is facilitated by providing an alternating supply to the pair of terminals of the coil. A hinge is provided on a base supporting the magnet for facilitating the pivotal movement of coil with respect to the magnet. A resilient band is provided adjacent the operative top surface of the magnet for securing the coil to the magnet.

  • Patent number: 8174345
Abstract: A vibration generator 1 has an attachment structure of a spring by which the attachment error of the spring elastically supporting a mover composed of a magnet and a yoke does not become the error of the span of the spring to make it possible to improve the ease and yield of manufacture. The vibration generator 1 includes a mover which is composed of a magnet 5 and yokes 4, 7a and 7b, and a spring 6 which is composed of an integrally molded article made of an elastomeric material and elastically supports the mover to allow the mover to vibrate in the central axis direction C. The spring is arranged on the outside of a coil 3 in a radial direction thereof and extends along the radial direction.

  • Patent number: 8134438
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an inductively driven electromagnetic linear actuator arrangement employing eddy currents induced in an armature by a drive coil to drive the armature. Eddy current focusing fields (Lorentz force) are employed to direct the induced eddy currents to maximize armature speed. The armature includes a shorted driven coil in a DC magnetic field that focuses eddy currents induced by the drive coil in the driven coil. The DC magnetic field can be supplied by one or more permanent magnets. When current is applied to the drive coil, a force is felt by the driven coil in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic field, causing armature movement. Such an actuator is well suited for electrical switching applications including transfer switching applications, circuit breaker applications, and ground fault interrupter applications.

  • Patent number: 8129870
Abstract: An asymmetric folded spring flexure suspension system can enable an ultra-compact linear reciprocative device wherein a reciprocative mass suspended from a base by a single folded flexure assembly extends in a single generally radial direction perpendicular to the intended travel path. The folded flexure assembly can be configured as three side-by-side stacks of flexure strips of spring material, tied together at a “yoke-idler” end; at the opposite “working” end, a central stack of nominal width is tied to the mass, and, flanking the central stack, a pair of half-width stacks are tied to opposite sides of the base. In an embodiment for active vibration control, a cylindrical enclosure, of magnetically-permeable material and attached to the working end of the flexure assembly, contains a driver system including an internally-mounted pair of permanent magnets that provide a magnetic flux gap and also constitute the main portion of the mass.

Abstract: A needle-free transdermal transport device for transferring a substance across a surface of a biological body includes a reservoir for storing the substance, a nozzle in fluid communication with the reservoir and a controllable electromagnetic actuator in communication with the reservoir. The actuator, referred to as a Lorentz force actuator, includes a stationary magnet assembly and a moving coil assembly. The coil assembly moves a piston having an end portion positioned within the reservoir. The actuator receives an electrical input and generates in response a corresponding force acting on the piston and causing a needle-free transfer of the substance between the reservoir and the biological body. The magnitude, direction and duration of the force are dynamically controlled (e.g., servo-controlled) by the electrical input and can be altered during the course of an actuation cycle. Beneficially, the actuator can be moved in different directions according to the electrical input.

  • Patent number: 8022799
Abstract: A magnetic circuit unit includes a pole piece, a magnet, and a yoke and a suspension made of a magnetic material. A magnetic gap is formed between an inner circumferential side surface of the suspension and a circumference of the pole piece. Accordingly, it is possible to allow the magnet in the magnetic circuit unit to be thinly constructed. In addition, it is possible to implement a multi-function vibration actuator having a thin structure and capable of obtaining a sufficiently sensible vibration.

Abstract: A small balancer coil for cold-cathode florescent lamps having sufficient shunt/balance effects, comprises a discharge lamp, a conductor located close to the discharge lamp, and two coils whose magnetic fluxes face each other. The magnetic fluxes generated in the coils face and cancel each other. Lamp currents of the discharge lamps are balanced by making the sum of the reactances of the mutual inductance of the balancer coil larger than the negative resistance of the discharge lamp. Section winding is applied to each coil of the balancer coil so as to maintain shunt and balance effects even in a small/flat balancer coil by making self-resonance frequency of each of the coils higher.
