Abstract: A coolant pump includes a pump frame, a driving wheel driven by an engine, a pump wheel driven by the driving wheel, and a clutch which couples the driving wheel with the pump wheel. The clutch comprises a friction surface arranged at the driving wheel, and a clutch disc which corresponds to the friction surface. The clutch disk is connected with and co-rotates with the pump wheel, and is axially shiftable between an engaged and a disengaged position. An axial pretension spring pretensions the clutch disc into the disengaged position. A permanent magnet forces the clutch disc into the engaged position. An electromagnet, when energized, generates a polarization which is opposite to a polarization of the permanent magnet to reduce a total magnetic attraction force of the permanent magnet with respect to the clutch disc and to thereby push the clutch disc into the disengaged position via the pretension spring.

Abstract: A method for producing a switchable core element-based permanent magnet apparatus, used for holding and lifting a target, comprised of two or more carrier platters containing core elements. The core elements are magnetically matched soft steel pole conduits attached to the north and south magnetic poles of one or more permanent magnets, inset into carrier platters. The pole conduits contain and redirect the permanent magnets' magnetic field to the upper and lower faces of the carrier platters. By containing and redirecting the magnetic field within the pole conduits, like poles have a simultaneous level of attraction and repulsion. Aligning upper core elements “in-phase,” with the lower core elements, activates the apparatus by redirecting the magnetic fields of both pole conduits into the target. • Patent number: 6106682
Abstract: An electromagnet having one or more coils wrapped around a plate-shaped core produces a uniaxial magnetic filed in the vicinity of a substrate surface for orienting a magnetic film deposited onto the substrate surface. Variations in the magnetic mass of the plate-shaped core or in the magnetic permeability of the core mass are made to reduce angular skew and to improve uniformity of the uniaxial magnetic field. The variations generally involve a reduction in magnetic mass or permeability near a center of the core with respect to a periphery of the core. Cavities of various sizes and shapes but having symmetry with a magnetic axis can be formed in the core for this purpose.

  • Patent number: 5266914
Abstract: A magnetic chuck assembly comprises top and bottom plates separated by a layer of non-magnetizable material, each plate having magnetizable sections separated by strips of non-magnetic material. A rotor mounted between the top and bottom plates carries a plurality of permanent magnets substantially symmetrically disposed therein. The magnets in each half of the rotor are of the same polarity but those in one half are of opposite polarity to those in the other. When the rotor is turned to a position in which all the magnets of like polarity in one half thereof lie between the magnetizable sections of the plates on the same side of the non-magnetizable strips, the sections become magnetized and hold a magnetizable workpiece in place on the edges of the plate. Switching the rotor to a position in which equal numbers of magnets of opposite polarity lie between the magnetizable sections serves to de-energize the latter and release the workpiece.
