With Manual, Gravity-actuated Or Other Mechanical Contact Control Means Patents (Class 337/402)
  • Patent number: 11536872
Abstract: A method of operating a mechanical switching device is disclosed. The switching device includes a housing, an assembly disposed in the housing, and a body. The assembly is thermally deformable and comprises a beam held in two different places by two arms secured to edges of the housing. The beam is remote from the body in a first configuration and in contact with and immobilized by the body in a second configuration. The assembly has the first configuration at a first temperature and the second configuration when one of the arms has a second temperature different from the first temperature. The method includes exposing an arm of the assembly to the second temperature, and releasing the beam using a release mechanism. The release mechanism includes a pointed element comprising a pointed region directed towards the body. The pointed element limits an open crater in a concave part of a projection.

  • Patent number: 8941461
Abstract: A circuit protection device includes a substrate with first and second electrodes connected to the circuit to be protected. The circuit protection device also includes a heater element between the first and second electrodes. A sliding contact is connected by a sensing element to the first electrode, second electrode, and heater element, thereby bridging and providing a conductive path between each. A spring element is held in tension by, and exerts a force parallel to a length of the substrate against, the sliding contact. Upon detection of an activation condition, the sensing element releases the sliding contact and the force exerted by the spring element moves the sliding contact to another location on the substrate at which the sliding contact no longer provides a conductive path between the first electrode, second electrode, and heater element.

  • Patent number: 6088234
Abstract: The connection structure of a circuit protection element for securely connecting at least two lead terminals of the circuit protection element to a circuit board includes terminal connection elongated holes each provided in the circuit board for connecting the lead terminals to the circuit board by soldering. The circuit board is positioned in such a way that the elongated direction of the elongated terminal connection hole is positioned in a downward direction. When an abnormal current is applied to the circuit, or when the circuit protection element fails to heat itself up to a high temperature, the solder melts. Thereby, the lead terminals easily disengage from the terminal connection holes so that the circuit protection element falls freely from the circuit board. Thus, the circuit is surely cut off easily.

  • Patent number: 6028381
Abstract: Between a relay terminal of a direct current motor and a contact terminal of an electromagnetic switch, there is provided a fuse which is melted to cut off an electric current upon reaching a predetermined temperature. By properly setting the predetermined temperature at which the fuse melts, it is possible to make the fuse heated to a high temperature and melted in a relatively short time to cut off the electric current in the event of, for example, a continuous operative condition caused due to such a failure as fusion adhesion of a movable contact point with a B-terminal and an M-terminal or fusion adhesion of a contact point mechanism outside a starter, or an overcurrent supply condition caused upon a rotor being locked.

  • Patent number: 5852396
Abstract: A fusible element is provided that includes cooperating interfitting parts surrounded by fusible material. The cooperating interfitting parts are arranged so as to place compressive force on the fusible material in response to attempted separation of the interfitting parts. Further, the arrangement also reduces the forces on the fusible material. In response to a predetermined time-current condition, the fusible material softens sufficiently to permit the release and separation of the interfitting parts.

  • Patent number: 5600295
Abstract: The thermal fuse has a spring clip (1) with solder locations (5, 6) at both ends as well as a bending section (4) in the region between the solder locations. Given a tension-free spring clip, the spacing between the solder locations (5, 6) corresponds to the regular spacing of the appertaining circuit contacts (15, 16) of the substrate. After the spring clip has been soldered onto the circuit contacts (15, 16), the bending section (4) is deformed such by applying force that a pre-stress arises in the spring arms (2, 3) of the spring clip.

  • Patent number: 4313047
Abstract: An overtemperature protector for an appliance having an electrical heating element, the overtemperature protector being formed basically of just a spring blade positionable to bring a contact on the surface of the blade into circuit-energizing engagement with a fixed contact, and an insulator-capped fusible pin retaining the blade in that position. Excessive heat in the appliance softens the pin, allowing the spring blade force on the insulator cap to shear the pin and interrupt the circuit. The overtemperature protector is preferably incorporated in a thermostatic control, the fixed contact being supported on a lateral extension projecting from one circuit element of the thermostat assembly and the spring blade being supported within the assembly with an insulating spacer separating it from the thermostat element having the lateral extension. The spring blade is preferably sickle-shaped for compactness despite having a long length for low force to minimize effects of creep of the fusible pin.
