  • Patent number: 10470484
Abstract: An apparatus for preparing a shelf-stable processed grain product includes a series of heating and cooling stages performed on a processed grain product having a water activity value of about 0.65 or less. A first heating stage takes the grain pieces to a first elevated temperature, which is followed by a first cooling stage. The grain pieces are passed to a second heating stage to reach a second elevated temperature, followed by a second cooling stage. The grain pieces are then passed to a third heating stage, after which they are sufficiently soft and pliable for a final forming stage such as flaking, bumping, puffing, or the like. This allows grain pieces that are suitable for long term storage, but too brittle for final forming, to be softened for final forming without raising the moisture content to a point that is conducive to mold formation or reduced product quality.

Abstract: A technique for roasting coffee beans to a desired doneness. A fan forces air through a heating element and into an opening in a funnel-shaped bottom of a roasting chamber. A stream of heated air lifts beans located over the opening until they fall out of the stream, allowing other beans to fall over the opening. Thus, the beans continuously circulate in a fountain-like manner. A temperature probe in the roasting chamber contacts the circulating beans. Green coffee beans are placed in the roasting chamber, a desired doneness is selected, and the fan and heating element are activated. As the beans roast, a temperature sensed by the temperature probe is cumulated over time, forming a cumulated value. In addition, the heating element and speed of the fan are controlled to maintain the rate at which the sensed temperature is rising within preselected limits. At any point in time during the roasting process, the cumulated value is highly representative of the doneness of the beans.

Those hot plates from which wood plates are not discharged or between which wood plates are not inserted are kept in a pressed state.

  • Patent number: 5537758
Abstract: A drier for the continuous drying and conditioning treatment of hides and fabric products has a drying chamber having first and second areas, a loading unit for conveying product to the first area, a conveyor for transporting product from the first area to the second area and an unloading belt for conveying material out of the second area. The drier has a first heater and humidity control for heating and circulating air in the first area and a second heater and humidity control for heating and dehumidifying air circulated in the second area. The second heating and humidifying control includes a heat pump which has a compressor and a refrigeration circuit and a heating and condensing battery. Water saturated air is circulated through the condensing battery in heat exchange relation with the refrigeration circuit for removing water saturated air from the second area and delivering the air to the heating battery which reheats the air for circulation back into the second area.

  • Patent number: 5349845
Abstract: The invention relates to a measuring apparatus for measuring the condition of a felt in a paper machine, comprising a measuring head (1) connected to a vacuum source. Air is sucked into the measuring head through the felt, and the air and the water carried with the air are removed through separate conduits. The measuring head comprises a microwave head for measuring the water content of the felt, and a temperature detector for measuring the temperature of the sucked air concurrently with the vacuum measurement.

  • Patent number: 5345694
Abstract: A clothes drying machine has a drum where clothes to be dried are placed. A detection electrodes of a degree-of-dryness detecting circuit are positioned in the drum, by which a microcomputer determines whether the clothes are dried. The drying machine has a preset function for in advance setting a time when a drying operation is to be completed. A display, which displays a specific mode when a time reaches the set time, clothes are not dried enough, and the drying operation continues, is provided in the drying machine.

  • Patent number: 5320426
Abstract: A drum mixer is useful in the continuous production of asphalt paving composition, and has provision for the accurate control of the final temperature of the composition being produced. The drum mixer comprises a fixedly mounted cylindrical sleeve disposed in a generally horizontal orientation, and rotating blades for conveying the heated aggregate longitudinally through the interior of the sleeve. An opening is provided in the side wall portion of the sleeve, and a box-like enclosure covers the opening and mounts a plurality of sensor mounting tubes, so as to permit one or more sensors to be positioned at a location within the enclosure. The enclosure is located where the blades or mixing action in the sleeve will supply a regular flow of the aggregate into the enclosure, and so that the aggregate then slides over the sensors.
