  • Patent number: 8952792
Abstract: A tuning circuit in an RFID tag may be used to match antenna and integrated circuit (IC) impedances to maximize the efficiency of IC power extraction from an incident RF wave. The tuning circuit, which requires less power to operate than the IC, adjusts a variable impedance to improve the impedance matching between the IC and the tag antenna and thereby increase the IC power extraction efficiency. The IC may begin operating according to a protocol when it extracts sufficient power from the RF wave or when an optimal impedance matching and power transfer is achieved.

  • Patent number: 8410900
Abstract: Techniques for processing an incoming message from premises equipment at a monitoring location. In one embodiment, an event message, including digits with varying amplitudes, is generated at a premises (such as a home, office, factory, etc.) in response to an event at the premises. A communication channel is established between the premises equipment and the monitoring location and the event message is sent from the premises equipment to the monitoring location. The entire event message is evaluated based on the number of digits received compared to expected receiving parameters defined in a communication protocol. A number of possible interpretations of the event message is determined. One or more possible interpretations of the event message are eliminated based on the number of digits in each of the possible interpretations to create a subset of possible interpretations.

  • Patent number: 8379804
Abstract: Event data messages can be provided by an interactive voice response (IVR) system to a complex events processor (CEP). The event data messages can include a Stream_ID and a series of textual elements. The Stream_ID can uniquely identify a call session between a caller and the IVR system. The series of textual elements can represent speech input provided by the caller. The CEP can create a text string from the series of textual elements of event data messages having the same Stream_ID. The text string can inherit the Stream_ID of the event data messages. The CEP can utilize user-defined business rules to process the text string. When the CEP issues an action message, the Stream_ID of the text string can be appended to the action message sent to the IVR system. The IVR system can modify the call session associated with the Stream_ID of the action message accordingly.

  • Patent number: 8054171
Abstract: A method and apparatus for allowing a troubleshooter to reuse existing indicators, such as displays, LEDs, or specialized indicators, for a purpose other than the indicator's usual purpose. In response to an initial occurrence of a problem, the troubleshooter modifies the indicator's behavior to indicate a later occurrence of a fault or a set of faults, which may be the cause of the problem. Upon the later occurrence of the problem, the indicator is monitored for simultaneous notification of occurrence of the fault. After the problem is triaged, the modified indicator is returned to its original use. The notification from the indicator can be sensory, i.e., auditory, visible, or tactile. The indicator's change in behavior can occur after the fault happens once or an administrable threshold number of times, or intermittently. Alternatively, the change in behavior may become semi-permanent if the fault continues to occur for some administrable number of times.

  • Patent number: 7126473
Abstract: A security system to create and maintain a secure communication link between a remote secure storage site and a law enforcement office using a continuous prearranged encrypted signal on the communication link. The authenticity of the encrypted signal is validated at the law enforcement office. Interruption of the encrypted signal is treated as an alarm that must be investigated. Sensors at the remote secure storage site detect intrusions and trigger the transmission of an alarm signal from the site to the law enforcement office on the communication link. The law enforcement office may enable video cameras or containment devices in the event of an intrusion.

  • Patent number: 7016770
Abstract: The invention relates to the use of a first coding or decoding rule for a normal operation and of a second coding or decoding rule for a particular operation. Said invention provides the opportunity for speedily transmitting data between different satellite devices arranged in a motor vehicle and an evaluation unit arranged, for example in the central part thereof, even when the data bus (31, 32) of a transmission channel CAN (3) is externally short circuited, for example by a traffic accident, i.e. the data bus BUS L (32) and the data bus BUS H (31) are connected to earth (GND) or to a battery (Vbat). The invention can be used, in particular for protecting passengers.

  • Patent number: 6594499
Abstract: A power control system method for controlling the downlink (DL) transmit power from a base station (BS) to a mobile station (MS) in a cellular telecommunications network. A power balancing value &Dgr;P is divided into a number of smaller correction implements which are distributed over a plurality of spaced apart slots for DL power control. For example, if it is desired to correct DL transmit power by six dB, a total of six different correction values of one dB each may be implemented with adjacent ones of the correction values being spaced apart by a number of slots. The distribution or spreading of DL transmit power corrections over a period of time results in a plurality of smaller corrections as opposed to one or a few large corrections, thereby reducing potential adverse effects on the inner loop power control of the network.

  • Patent number: 6492903
Abstract: A multiple input-type and multiple signal processing-type device may include an input stage for receiving a plurality of different analog signal types, and down and up-converters for respectively downwardly converting first signal types and upwardly converting second signal types to a desired processing frequency range. Furthermore, the device may include an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for converting analog signals at the desired processing frequency range into digital signals, and time and frequency domain signal processing sections connected to the ADC for processing the digital signals. Furthermore, the device may advantageously include a user selector input for permitting a user to selectively activate one of the down-converter or up-converter and one of the time or frequency domain signal processing sections.

  • Patent number: 6339373
Abstract: A sensor device is provided for sensing a selected parameter such as pressure or temperature at a selected site, which is typically a remote site, and for generating outputs, normally to a control site, which outputs are either selected steady state or non-steady state outputs, the non-steady state outputs being indicative of the parameter being within a normal or acceptable range and/or the parameter being within an unacceptable or alarm range. The steady state outputs can be indicative either of the parameter being within a normal range or of a device failure. A particular steady state output, for example a null output, may be indicative of all failure conditions or different steady state outputs may be utilized to indicate different failure conditions.
