Abstract: Automatically operating a door system is controlled by an affirmative action of a patron. An occupancy status of an inside area is provided to the patron approaching the door from an outside area. The patron is directed to request the door be opened in response to an unoccupied status. A presence of the patron in the inside area is sensed and the door automatically closed, and optionally locked. One actuator is set to an in use status indicating use of the inside area by the patron. A door ready for opening status is provided to the patron. With an affirmative action with a second actuator by the patron desiring to open the door and exit the inside area, the door is unlocked and opened. Sensing an absence of the patron within the inside area, the door is automatically closed, and first actuator reset to the ready state.

  • Patent number: 7800497
Abstract: A system is disclosed including a transponder and a shield. The transponder may be a radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder and sends a signal to a reader. The shield selectively prevents the transponder from sending the signal. The transponder and the shield are selectively movable relative to each other to permit transmission of the signal from the transponder. A movement of the transponder and the shield relative to each other is indicated by the presence of the signal. Thus, when a signal is present, due to a change or increase of the movement of the shield relative to the transponder, the reader receives an indication of a disturbance or an intrusion.

  • Patent number: 7612667
Abstract: An alarm and security system is incorporated with a screen unit that may be a part of a window or a part of a patio door or the like. The screen unit is formed of robust expanded metal mesh to discourage intrusion therethrough. A plurality of locks about the frame of the screen unit lock the screen unit with a supporting frame. A control unit is coupled with sensors for sensing motion of the screen unit or tampering with the screen unit to activate audible, inaudible and/or visible alarms at a local or remote location. A camera, activated by the sensors provides an image upon tampering or intrusion of the screen unit. If the screen unit is a screen door, a pet door in the screen door is locked in place to prevent intrusion but a signal generating element on a pet will release the lock when the pet is in close proximity. A remote receiver may be used to receive an alarm signal from the control unit.

  • Patent number: 7609160
Abstract: A system for controlling door-mounted or door-embedded antennas. An antenna, for example, an EAS or an RF antenna, sends interrogation signals which are received by markers located on merchandise within a range of detection, i.e., an “interrogation zone”. Antennas that are mounted on or embedded in a door move along with the motion of the door. Thus, the interrogation zone covered by the antenna's magnetic field is continually changing with the movement of the door. The system and method of the present invention control door-mounted antennas by monitoring the motion of the door upon which the antenna is mounted, and by adjusting the size and breadth of the interrogation zone generated by the antenna accordingly.

  • Patent number: 7602286
Abstract: A security arrangement includes a mounting device having an upstanding wall. The mounting device is mounted to a surface of a structure such that the wall is oriented substantially perpendicular to the surface. A security sensor senses an event that occurs outside of the security arrangement. A tamper detector is attached to the security sensor and includes an optical emitter, an optical receiver, and a slot disposed between the emitter and the receiver. The emitter transmits optical energy that is received by the receiver through the slot. The wall of the mounting device is received in the slot when the tamper detector is coupled to the mounting device to thereby block the transmission of the optical energy from the emitter to the receiver. A controller is communicatively coupled to the receiver and produces a tamper signal in response to the receiver receiving the optical energy.

  • Patent number: 7595727
Abstract: A system for inspecting a secure enclosure from a remote location to determine whether a secure enclosure door has been opened includes a seal having a base material and an indicator. The base material is bonded across first and second secure enclosure surfaces that must move relative to each other when the secure enclosure door opens. The indicator includes an indicator component that is coupled to the base material to deform in response to a relative movement between the first and second secure enclosure surfaces. The indicator provides a first indication prior to deformation of the indicator component and a second indication after deformation. Indicator components can include an impedance element, a piezoelectric material, volatile memory, a transmitter assembly component or a bar code. A monitor (e.g. RF signal receiver or a bar code reader) receives the indication and determines whether the secure enclosure door has been opened.
