Patent number: 8344890Abstract: In the embodiments described herein, a RFID enabled license plate is constructed by using the license plate, or a retro-reflective layer formed thereon as part of the resonator configured to transmit signals generated by and RFID chip integrated with the license plate. Such an RFID enabled license plate can include a metal license plate with a slot formed in the metal license plate, and a RFID tag module positioned in the slot. The RFID tag module can include a chip and a loop, and the loop can be coupled with the metal license plate, e.g., via inductive or conductive coupling. In this manner, the metal license plate can be configured to act as a resonator providing increased performance.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2007Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Neology, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey Zhu, Chih-chuan Yen, Jun Liu, Joe Mullis

Patent number: 8344891Abstract: A security hard tag, uses an attachment clip to couple to an article, such as but not limited to clothing, to be protected and which can only be released from the article by use of an authorized detacher that is inserted into the security hard tag. The attachment clip may include various types of locking mechanisms on its two ends, one end which is permanently secured within the security hard tag housing and the other end which is releasably secured within the housing. Before being releasably secured within the housing, the one end is inserted through or around a portion of an article, or through a security tag loop attached to the article, and then that end is locked into the housing. The detacher uses a cam, either located on the detacher itself or positioned within the security hard tag housing, to interact with the one end of the attachment clip to release the locked end.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2009Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Checkpoint Systems, Inc.Inventors: Lawrence Appalucci, Anthony F. Publication number: 20120326872Abstract: A surveyor's mark and a method of forming the mark. A tag is embedded in a head. The head is removably assembled to a stick. The head is configured to be above a ground when the stick is planted in the ground. The head includes a tag. The tag in the head includes an identification number whose value identifies the tag and indicates if the head is disassembled from the stick. If the stick is planted in the ground and the head is above the ground, then pulling the head in an attempt to pull up the mark from the ground results in changing the value of the identification number in the tag from a first code value to a second code value that differs from the first code value.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 6, 2012Publication date: December 27, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Frederic Bauchot, Gerard Marmigere, Pierre Secondo
