Abstract: A method and device for early detection of fires is based on the detection of volatile thermolysis products which are characteristic of the material to be monitored, ambient air being aspirated from an area to be monitored with respect to fire and being ionized, the ionized gas flow being channeled through an electromagnetic field, the resulting field strength of which modifying the trajectories of the ions in their temporal and spatial dependence with a parameter set in such a manner that positive and/or negative ions of the ionized gas are forced onto pre-determined trajectories and are detected for generating a fire alarm. Accordingly, fires can be detected quickly and reliably in the earliest possible phase before their full development so that taking or initiating follow-up actions can occur particularly quickly and at an early stage.

  • Patent number: 8963725
Abstract: The invention relates to a tester and test method for smoke amount of electrical cigarette. The tester includes a collect device, a testing device, a control device as well as an input and output device. The input and output device is used to set test parameters, alarm and display a value of smoke amount and a test result whether qualified. The collect device, used to collect smoke, can precisely control a pumping smoke time and a pumping smoke capacity by introducing a step motor. The testing device, utilizing a light emitter and receiver, test a smoke amount. If the smoke amount tested is less than a predetermined smoke amount, an alarm system alarms by way of display and/or sound. The invention quantifies smoke amount of electronic cigarette, which can be adopted in the manufacture field of electronic cigarette to test smoke amount.

Abstract: A porch light assembly with an emergency signaling device is disclosed. The emergency signaling device is in the form of a strobe light associated with a porch light, the strobe light being in communication with one or more smoke detectors installed within the building or residence. The strobe light can be mounted integrally within the mounting base of the lighting fixture itself or a separate mounting base with strobe light can be attached to a separate lighting fixture. The strobe light can be hardwired to the same electrical circuit operating the smoke detectors or can be connected wirelessly with the smoke detectors. Upon activation, the strobe light provides a visual emergency signal on the exterior of the building or residence allowing emergency crews to quickly and easily identify the building or residence in need of assistance.

Abstract: An environmental monitoring device that includes an acoustic sensor is described. During operation of the environmental monitoring device, the acoustic sensor provides acoustic data based on measurements of sound in an external environment that includes the environmental monitoring device. Based on the acoustic data, a control mechanism determines if an alarm device, which is separate from the environmental monitoring device, is activated. For example, the environmental monitoring device may determine if a smoke detector is activated based on measurements of sound, such as a temporal 3 acoustic pattern. In addition, a sensor mechanism in the environmental monitoring device may provide sensor data based on measurements of an environmental condition in the external environment. The control mechanism may use the sensor data to assess a degree of threat in the external environment, and the environmental monitoring device may output different audible sounds as the degree of threat changes.
