  • Patent number: 6720884
Abstract: An obstacle detection system for vehicular environments including a monitoring sensor system and a mounting system is disclosed. An installer can make aiming adjustments, in the factory or field, to account for tolerance stack-up. The system includes a housing for mounting the monitoring sensor system to minimize cross-talk and interference between transmitter and receiver sections, to limit sensor system movement, and to enable gross and fine aiming adjustments. In one embodiment, a circuit board is disposed within a cradle assembly which, in turn, is mounted in or integral to the housing to position the obstacle detection sensor as necessary. The cradle in one embodiment is an enclosure for the circuit board. The sensor housing is mounted to the interior vehicle trim, door panel, and/or door sheet metal and ensures consistent mounting regardless of interior trim or factory installation variations. Integral adjustment mechanisms are incorporated for adjusting the orientation of the sensor system.

Abstract: A junction box assembly for weather-resistant installations is disclosed including a junction box (100) and an extension ring (116, 216) adapted to attach with an component such as an alarm signaling unit (118, 218). The junction box assembly enables a relatively uniform compressive force about the periphery of the alarm signaling unit, such that a good, weather resistant seal is produced between a sealing surface (159, 259) on the alarm signaling unit and a mounting surface (161). In an embodiment of the assembly the extension ring (216) includes a flange (244) that attaches to the junction box, an large aperture (247) providing access to the interior of the junction box, and a mounting plate (266) including a threaded aperture (254) that is centrally located to align with a mounting aperture (242) in the alarm signaling unit. A gasket (219) may be provided between the signaling unit and the sealing surface.

Abstract: An emergency response system including a smoke detector and an evacuation guide. The emergency response system and evacuation guide are separate components removably attached to each other, and each has a shape that includes a long, narrow neck and a curved handle, which permits both the smoke detector and evacuation guide to be installed by hanging each from a door knob. The smoke detector includes, in addition to means for sensing smoke and means for emitting an alarm, a radio transmitter that generates and transmits an activation signal in the form of radio waves. The radio waves are detected by a radio receiver in the evacuation guide. Upon receipt of the activation signal, a digital recording and playback device delivers a message to occupants of the home or building. A flashlight contained within the evacuation guide also is illuminated.

Abstract: The security system as presented is used preferredly to monitor paintings and other work of art. Essential component of the security system are suspending elements, for mounting e.g. paintings. The suspending elements also serve to transmit signals (data) or electrical power, for illumination purposes. It is preferred to implement a two wire bus system with the suspending elements. In case an alarm is triggered, the system according to the invention is able to immediately identify and display the time and the place of the objects to be guarded. Several levels of monitoring capabilities are provided, which work in cooperation with hardware consisting of different sensors or transponders. The security system in accordance with one embodiment is connectable to a network.
