  • Patent number: 10810931
Abstract: A discrete LED display control includes a method of scaling the brightness of frames of an image according to corresponding electrical current requirements. The method includes opening an electronic file containing a frame of an image to be shown on the display and measuring a commanded brightness for each pixel of the frame of the image. Brightness values of the commanded brightnesses are summed and converted to corresponding current values. The corresponding current values are adjusted to arrive at a total estimated current for the frame of the image. If the total estimated current exceeds a current limit of the display, the brightness value of each pixel is scaled to a final brightness value. The final brightness value corresponds to an adjusted current that is within the current limit. The adjusted current that corresponds to the final brightness value is sent to the display.

  • Patent number: 10429590
Abstract: A rotating or tilting MEMS structure, such as a tilt mirror for an optical device, includes a damping mechanism, provided by locating an inlay block structure underneath the MEMS rotating surface. Damping is created by the temporary squeezing or compression of the air, atmosphere, or gas(es) surrounding the MEMS structure, between the underside of the MEMS tilting surface and the top surface of the block. Movement of the MEMS surface away from the top surface of the block will also be damped by the temporary reduction in pressure. The block structure is fabricated separately from the MEMS tilt-mirror structure and located under the MEMS tilt-mirror structure, either before or during the die-attach or die-bonding process. The damping effect serves to minimize and limit the amplitude and duration of oscillatory motion of the MEMS tilt-mirror, following intentional movement of the mirror, or, in response to external shock and vibrational forces.

The optical transceiver in the first optical scope can include a light array that is used to emit a bright pulse of light as a flash. The camera in the second optical scope captures this flash in a camera image. The camera image can then be processed to spatially localize the flash relative to a central region of a photodetector array in the optical transceiver of the second optical scope. A control system can then drive a positioning system for the second optical scope to adjust the second optical scope's positioning so that the second optical scope photodetector array's central region aligns with the spatially localized flash.

The light guide layer may have opposing upper and lower surfaces. The upper surface of the light guide layer may have ridges and the lower surface of the light guide layer may have bumps. The edge of the light guide layer may have light mixing structures. The light mixing structures may include an alternating pattern of protrusions with different shapes. For example, triangular protrusions of a first size may be patterned with triangular protrusions of a second size. The light mixing structures may reduce the mixing distance of the backlight unit.

Abstract: A mobile solar array is provided which can be reconfigured between an operational (i.e. flat) configuration, and a retracted (i.e. folded) configuration. This is a two-step process. First, the structure that supports the solar array in its operation configuration on a docking pad is collapsed. This lowers the solar array toward the docking pad. Next, the solar array, which includes three sections of photovoltaic modules is folded lengthwise. Specifically, side sections of the solar array are folded out-of-plane from the center section. This places the solar array in its retracted configuration.
