    Abstract: A phased array antenna device is described. The phased array antenna device includes at least one one-dimensional phased array of radiating elements arranged along an array direction, a lens, and a phase control element. The lens is arranged such that divergent beams from the radiating elements are collimated by the lens in a direction orthogonal to the array direction to produce a beam. The phase control element is configured to apply a linear phase gradient to the radiating elements thereby providing one-dimensional electronic beam steering for the antenna device. The antenna device may additionally include one or two mechanical positioners to mechanically move the at least one one-dimensional phased array in directions orthogonal to the array direction, where the phased array enables scanning along the array direction.

    Abstract: A telescopic rod antenna according to the present invention includes an antenna element and a waterproof ring-shaped seal member which is inserted in a ring-shaped gap in a joint between two rods of the antenna element. The ring-shaped seal member is obtained by shaping a thermoplastic resin film strip, on which at least one projecting portion is formed in its longitudinal direction, like a ring and compressing and inserting a ring-shaped film into the ring-shaped gap. A plurality of ring-shaped contact portions are formed on both sides of the film strip in its longitudinal direction while the projecting portion of the film strip serves as a basic contact portion. The ring-shaped contact portions are adhered to the inner surface of the larger-diameter rod and the outer surface of the smaller-diameter rod at a predetermined pressure.

    Abstract: An E-field generator for r.f. susceptibility testing comprises first and second conductive arms, each comprising a conductor having a U-shaped portion. A driving circuit connected to first ends of each conductor delivers r.f. power to the arms. A load resistance is connected between the opposite ends of the conductors. The U-shaped portions of the elements are disposed opposite each other in spaced relationship so that a device to be tested can be positioned between them. The elements are mounted on a housing which encloses the load resistance as well as a 9:1 balun. The elements are removably secured in clamps, and the housing has provisions for mounting in alternative positions.

    Abstract: A wire antenna having a Vivaldi taper that is used to radiate or receive low frequency RF energy from or to an airborne platform. The antenna comprises two conducting wires that trail from the platform, and which comprise a radiator having a Vivaldi taper. The shape of the conducting wires is maintained by a combination of aerodynamic drag on the conducting wires, a weight connected to the end of the lower wire, a chute connected to the end of the upper wire, and nonconducting guy-wires connecting the upper and lower conducting wires. The nonconducting guy-wires are positioned at locations between the upper and lower conducting wires to form and maintain an optimal taper between the conducting wires. A method of deploying a Vivaldi antenna from an airborne platform is also disclosed. A lower conducting wire is attached to the enclosure, and an upper conducting wire is attached to a chute. The antenna and chute are stored in the enclosure, and the enclosure is disposed beneath the platform.

    Abstract: A broad band dipole antenna of short length is formed by two tubular linear radiators which are spaced apart at their adjacent inner ends. Each of the radiators is encased in an electrically insulative sleeve and the antenna is liquid loaded along its length by a jacket of conductive fluid disposed between the insulative sleeve and an insulative tubular housing surrounding the radiators. The dipole is center-fed and each of the radiators, at its outer end, terminates in a connection to one end of a lumped resistive load whose other end is connected to a conductive disk that is in contact with the conductive liquid.
