Abstract: An electron gun and a CRT capable of accomplishing a reduction in spot diameter of electron beams, an increase in drive speed and control of luminance while being simplified in structure. Field emission cathodes acting as the electron source for the electron gun are arranged in the form of or divided into plurality of the small regions S for matrix driving, to thereby control luminance of the CRT depending on the number of small regions S selected. Thus, luminance control over any desired number of gradations which exhibits satisfactory resistance to noise and linearity can be realized while simplifying the structure, resulting in the field emission cathodes being highly conveniently applied to the electron gun of the CRT, leading to an improvement in functionality of the CRT.

Abstract: This method includes a method of identifying for a selected viewer a preferred program available from an interactive television or televideo (IT) system at a selected time. The IT system establishes for each viewer a database or table of viewer preferences representing the particular characteristics of programming previously delivered to the viewer. The IT system compares the particular characteristics in the viewer preference table to predetermined characteristics of video programming available at the selected time. The IT system determines for the video programming available at the selected time degrees of correlation to the predetermined characteristics in the viewer preference table. The IT system identifies as the preferred program the video programming available at the selected time having a greatest degree of correlation.
Abstract: A self-diagnostic arrangement for a video display apparatus and method effectuating the same is disclosed. The apparatus according to the present invention includes a cable connector, amplifiers and a cathode ray tube and comprises a microprocessor storing information on a display status, for selectively switching signals to generate horizontal and vertical sync signals for displaying a variety of self-diagnostic displays, an on screen display IC for supplying a blanking signal and a video signal correspondingly responsive to information supplied from the microprocessor and a H/V deflection circuit for supplying on screen display video. signals to the CRT. There is also provided a method of self-diagnosis, which comprises the steps of generating internal horizontal and vertical sync.signals of predetermined frequency levels and displaying self-diagnostic screens representing video component colors and a display status.
Abstract: A television display system employing edge brightness flicker reduction by modulation of the vertical deflection signal has digital control words for modulation polarity (D) and magnitude (S). These digital words are coupled to an amplifier (900) and converted to a bipolar analog signal (Bp). The bipolar analog signal comprises values in a first and second range. Signals in the first range produce vertical deflection modulation in a first direction and signals in the second range produce vertical deflection modulation in the opposite direction.
Abstract: An adaptive crosshatch signal generator includes a frequency detector for detecting a horizontal scanning frequency, a square calculator supplied with the detected output of the frequency detector, and a variable pulse width multivibrator controlled to have an output pulse width substantially in inverse proportion to the squared output. Longitudinal lines of a crosshatch signal are formed by the output pulses of the multivibrator. The crosshatch signal has a longitudinal line width which is always substantially equivalent to the distance between adjacent scanning lines and is generated by using a simplified configuration irrespective of input signal format.
Abstract: A battery operable personal computer comprises a display, a keyboard, a CPU, and a power supply circuit. The display panel displays various types of data at a luminance level according to a value of a luminance control signal. The keyboard serves to enter data instructing alteration of the luminance level of the display unit. The CPU instructs the luminance level of the display unit in accordance with data entered through the keyboard, The power supply circuit controls the value of the luminance control signal to be supplied to the display unit in such a way that the luminance level of the display becomes one specified by the CPU.
