  • Patent number: 10942615
Abstract: A set of reconfigurable clip-on modules for mobile computing devices includes two or more modules and at least one of the modules has an input button or other control and at least one of the modules can communicate with the computing device without needing to be connected to it via a wire. The input button is mapped to a user input in a program, such as a game, which is running or displayed on the computing device to which the modules are clipped. In an embodiment, user inputs via the buttons or other controls on the clip-on modules are mapped to user inputs in a game running on the device, which may be a touch-screen device, and the mapping between user inputs via the buttons and user inputs in the game may change dependent upon the game being played, user preference, or other criteria.

  • Patent number: 10942584
Abstract: Various embodiments described herein are directed toward input mechanisms, for input devices, configured to receive and removably couple to interchangeable elements. Handheld input devices applicable to some embodiments may include, without limitation, computer controllers, video game console controllers, and handheld video gaming devices. Input mechanisms applicable to various embodiments may include, for example, control sticks (e.g., joysticks or analog sticks operable by a user's finger, such as a thumbstick), buttons, switches, and directional pads. According to some embodiments, an input mechanism is provided comprising a base component. Depending on the embodiment, coupling different interchangeable elements to the base component may cause the input mechanism to vary in size, appearance, contour, material, or features provided by the input mechanism.

  • Patent number: 10938406
Abstract: A membrane digital analog switch includes an input button surface adapted to receive an input pressure from a user, and a digital switch positioned below the input button surface to generate a digital switch activation signal when the received pressure on the input button surface is greater than or equal to a specified digital pressure threshold. The membrane digital analog switch also includes an analog switch adapted to generate an analog switch activation signal when the received pressure on the input button surface is greater than or equal to a specified analog pressure threshold. The specified analog pressure threshold is greater than the specified digital pressure threshold, the digital switch activation signal is a binary digital signal, and the analog switch activation signal is variable and corresponds to an analog sensed value of the received pressure on the input button surface.

  • Patent number: 10890991
Abstract: Disclosed examples include optical and capacitive position detection systems and user interface control apparatus to detect relative positions of a stationary first structure and a movable second structure. The optical system includes pairs of optical source and sensor devices spaced along a first direction on the first structure and a reflector extending along the first direction on the second structure to selectively reflect light from one of the optical sources to the corresponding optical sensor of a given pair when the reflector is proximate the given pair. The capacitive sensing system includes capacitor plate structures on the first structure and a conductive structure on the second structure to move along the first direction to selectively modify a capacitance of a given group of two or more of the plate structures.

  • Patent number: 10845893
Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) maneuvering device generates 3D data by irradiating a two-dimensional (2D) reference surface with light of variable frequency. The 3D maneuvering device has high sensitivity, high resolution, and immunity from the noise caused by human vibrations. A rotational motion vector is derived by comparing the relative motion vectors derived from a pattern recognition process of surface features on the same reference plane with the positional data derived using the color index data. Thus, a single gestural movement of the operator's hand provides both the translational and rotational motion data simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 10838486
Abstract: The present concepts relate to a virtual reality controller that enables fine control of virtual objects using natural motions involving the dexterity of the user's fingers and provides realistic haptic sensations to the user's fingers. The controller may have a rigid structure design without moving parts. Force sensors under finger rests can detect forces exerted by user's fingers. Actuators can render haptic feedback from the virtual reality world to the user's fingers. The controller may include one or more trackpads on which the user may slide her fingers. The controller may be used for exploring and manipulating virtual objects, for example, by grasping, releasing, rotating, and feeling the surface of virtual objects.

  • Patent number: 10825213
Abstract: Techniques and systems for component-based digital image synchronization are described. In one example, a digital image is stored as a composite file with a number of separately compressed individual components. Indicators are generated during an editing process of a digital image. The indicators are usable to correlate altered portions of the digital image with compressed components of the composite digital image file. The altered components are then communicated to a synchronization service for synchronization with a remote representation of the digital image file.
