Abstract: Noise introduced into touch sensor panel measurements, for example, from display data lines of a display device proximate to the touch sensor panel, can be reduced. In some examples, touch sensing operations and display operations can be synchronized. For example, touch sensing scans (or scan steps) can begin with the rising edge of a display line synchronization signal. Additionally, the display noise can be characterized for the system. Display noise characterization and timing synchronization can be used to discard touch sensing samples including display noise injected into the touch sensor panel that may be synchronized to the display data line synchronization signal. In some examples, a window can be generated based on the characterized display noise, and the window can be applied to annihilate display noise. The application of the window can be time-dependent to account for offsets between the occurrence of the display noise and the touch sensing operation.

Abstract: A method of calibrating a force sensor that includes an input surface and an array of sensing elements. The input has a number of test locations and is deformable under applied force. The force sensor is mounted in a predetermined test orientation. For each test location of the plurality of test locations on the input surface of the force sensor a predetermined test force to the test location. An element calibration value is measured for each sensing element of the array of sensing elements of the force sensor. An (x, y) deformation map of the input surface of the force sensor corresponding to the application of the predetermined test force to the test location is determined based on the measured element calibration values.

  • Patent number: 10126878
Abstract: An electronic device includes a pressure-sensitive touch screen display that can dynamically monitor a user's interaction with the device, and adjust the pressure thresholds of different areas of the touch screen display based on the user's monitored interactions. The orientation of the device is determined, the touch screen display is divided into sections, and the device monitors the pressure the user applies in the different sections of the screen. A pressure map is then created that includes pressure detection thresholds specific to the orientation and user for one or more regions of the screen. The device may include different pressure maps for different orientations of the device. When the user interacts with the touch screen, the device determines what the user intended based on the orientation of the device and the thresholds in the pressure map for that orientation for the region of the screen touched by the user.

A pressing amount detecting unit detects whether or not the operation surface has been pressed. A grip determining unit determines whether or not the housing has been gripped by a user. A threshold adjusting unit adjusts a press detection sensitivity of the pressing amount detecting unit when the housing is gripped by the user and when the housing is not gripped by the user. By this means, it is possible to provide an input device which adequately detects a pressing operation, and a program which is executed by this input device.
