Non-planar Surface Patents (Class 345/585)
  • Patent number: 6573894
Abstract: Image data is converted to nonplanar image data for display on a nonplanar display, using a planar image graphics computer system, such as an OpenGL® system, which converts image data to planar image data for display on a planar display. A transformation matrix is obtained from the planar image graphics computer system. A plurality of vertices of the image data are multiplied by the obtained transformation matrix, to produce transformed image data. The transformed image data is nonplanarly distortion corrected to produce nonplanar image data. A passthrough transformation matrix, such as an identity matrix, is provided to the planar image graphics computer system. The nonplanar image data is then input to the planar image graphics computer system for further processing. The nonplanar image data which is processed by the planar image graphics computer system is then displayed on a nonplanar display.

  • Patent number: 6559853
Abstract: An environment map creation system creates an environment map from one or more images representing an environment. The environment map creation system includes a texture projection generation unit, which produces a texture projection having polygonal curved surfaces as facets. An environment map rendering unit uses the texture projection to create the environment map from the one or more images. Specifically, the environment map creation system determines an image area in the one or more images corresponding to each polygonal curved surface. The polygonal curved surface is colored based on the corresponding image area. The environment map is formed from the polygonal curved surfaces which become texels in the environment map.

Abstract: A virtual camera system includes a primary camera and one or more virtual cameras for generating panoramic environment data. Each virtual camera is emulated by a pair of secondary cameras that are aligned such that the nodal point of each camera lens form a line with the nodal point of the primary camera. The primary camera is aligned in a first direction to capture a first region of an environment surrounding the virtual camera system, and each pair of secondary cameras is aligned in parallel directions to capture secondary regions. Environment data captured by each pair of secondary cameras is combined to emulate a virtual camera having a nodal point coincident with that of the primary camera. Environment data captured by the primary camera and attributed to each virtual camera is then stitched together to provide a panoramic environment map from the single point of reference.

  • Patent number: 6525728
Abstract: A method in accordance with our invention permits the manipulation of a two-dimensional pixel array using a standard 3D graphics pipeline. The method comprises the steps of forming a wire mesh of the two-dimensional image. This wire mesh comprises a set of triangles, in which all of the vertices and sides of the triangles are located in the same plane in x, y, z coordinate space. The 2D image is then mapped into the mesh. The resulting object representation can then be manipulated in the same manner that 3D representations are manipulated by a 3D graphics pipeline.

  • Patent number: 6339431
Abstract: A data input section inputs time series data changeable over the passage of time. An annotation input section inputs an annotation related to at least one of the time series data. A transformation section transforms the annotation according to a correlation between the annotation and the time series data. An output section outputs the transformed annotation combined with the time series data.

  • Patent number: 6326976
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for determining the representation of a picture on a display and a method for determining the color of a pixel displayed on a display. It is the object of the present inventions to enable computers disposing of a relatively low capacity for calculating the displayed image to fast and unalterated representations of images disposing of textures with a large size. This is achieved by altering the textures in MIPmaps and determining the MIPmap level for displaying the texture and calculating the color value of a pixel in a manner adapted to screen resolution and computing speen.

Abstract: An image generating device for displaying a model comprised of a plurality of polygons set in a virtual 3D space and simulating an object having at least one flat plane, the image generating device comprises: polygon storage means for storing coordinates of uneven polygon set; texture storage means for storing object textures to be adhered to the respective polygons of the uneven polygon set; coordinate processing means for moving the uneven polygon set by a specified amount in a specified direction; and texture displacement control means for displacing the adhering coordinates of the object textures to the respective polygons by the specified amount in an opposite direction from the specified direction.

  • Publication number: 20010026272
Abstract: A system and method for designing a wear article for an object comprises providing a virtual three-dimensional model of the object, including first data representing three dimensions of the object. Virtual two-dimensional patterns representing different portions of the wear article are assembled into a virtual three-dimensional wear article. The virtual three-dimensional wear article includes second data representing three dimensions of the wear article. A material type is associated with one or more of the virtual patterns and the virtual three-dimensional wear article. The material type has third data representing at least one physical property of the material type. In order to display the virtual three-dimensional wear article on the virtual three-dimensional model, the first and second data are compared to determine the non-intersection of the virtual three-dimensional wear article with the virtual three-dimensional object.

  • Patent number: 6151009
Abstract: A method for merging real and synthetic images in real time is comprised of the steps of providing a first signal containing depth and image information per pixel about a real image. A second signal containing depth and image information per pixel about a synthetic image is provided. The depth information corresponding to the real image and the depth information corresponding to the synthetic image for each pixel are compared. Based on the comparison, either the image information corresponding to the real image or the image information corresponding to the synthetic image is selected and combined.
