  • Patent number: 8325279
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, device and computer-program product for suppression of undesired temporal variations, notably flicker, in a sequence of video frames. Histogram-based and similar approaches generally do not remove all flicker. Features that are resolved only in portions of the flicker cycle will manifest themselves as residual flicker. This effect is near-universal in bright regions of a scene. The inventive solution is a mapping that aims to resolve in the output only those features that are resolved in all frames of the flicker cycle. Use of time-maximal quantile values may preserve non-resolution of such image features that are unresolved due to intermittent bright saturation. Thus, in one embodiment, a reduction of resolution is attained by means of a pixel-value mapping based on selecting, over a time window, maximal and minimal quantile values, with maximal values being used for bright spatial regions and minimal values for dark spatial regions.

  • Patent number: 8305391
Abstract: System and method for generating multiprimary signals with optimization for bit depth for use in display devices. A preferred embodiment comprises converting an input color signal into an output color signal, wherein the number of colors in the output color signal is less than a number of colors used in a display system, when a weighting of the input color signal is less than a specified threshold, and converting the input color signal into an output color signal, wherein the number of colors in the output color signal is equal to the number of colors used in the display system, when the weighting of the input color signal is greater than the specified threshold. The use of fewer colors eliminates low bit depth colors, allowing increased dither quality in dimmer images.

  • Patent number: 8253755
Abstract: System and method for image-based color sequence reallocation in sequential color display systems. A method comprises generating a color signal from an image to be displayed, wherein the color signal contains light intensity information, computing percentages of the color sequence to be allocated to each color in a set of colors in a sequential color display system, wherein the computing is based on the light intensity information, allocating the color sequence based on the computed percentages, and displaying the image using the color sequence. The allocation of the color sequence based on the image allows for the elimination of color intensities that are greater than needed in displaying the image. Portions of the color sequence formerly used to display the eliminated color intensities may be used to display colors with usable intensities, thereby increasing the brightness of images.

Abstract: A method and system to provide a color palette which facilitates user selection of web-safe colors. In laying out the color palette, the extent of achromatic colors located within the color palette is determined. The achromatic colors are then arranged in one group on the palette, for instance in order of lightest to darkest. The non web-safe chromatic colors are then grouped together. From this grouping blends of the colors are created. Finally, the web-safe chromatic colors are grouped together. Blends with respect to the web-safe chromatic colors are created and then grouped on the color palette.

Abstract: Keywords are appended to an image portion in one portion of a color image. In order to achieve this, a color bar is displayed on the color image, a color is designated by the position of a mark in the color bar, an image portion having the designated color is detected, a keyword table having keywords corresponding to the detected image portion is displayed, a desired keyword is selected from the displayed keyword table, and characters representing the selected keyword are displayed. Items of data representing the detected image portion, data representing the designated color and data representing the keyword are stored as metainformation in the image file of the color image.

Abstract: To provide an image display system, projector, image processing method, program and information storage medium enabling to shorten the time required for calibration when the color and brightness of an image is corrected in consideration of the influence of the ambient light, there is provided a liquid crystal projector having: a calibration signal generation section for generating four types of calibration image signals; a color light sensor for colorimetry of calibration images; a color correction section for correcting image information based on the color information from the color light sensor to correct the color of the image; and a brightness correction section for correcting the image information based on the color information from the color light sensor to correct the brightness of the image. The liquid crystal projector displays the image after the image information is corrected such that the color and brightness of the image are corrected according to the viewing environment.

  • Patent number: 6975330
Abstract: A process for graphic display of network performance information includes querying a number of platforms serving communication network functions for performance data, scaling such data to a scale of colors, displaying hierarchically linked sets of graphic objects which are color coded to represent the performance of network functions with which they are associated. Graphic selection of an object can either cause immediate display of related numeric information or can cause the display of a lower level set of objects which may be color coded to performance indexes, conventional graphic renderings of data, or alphanumeric expressions of data. The process enables effective monitoring of a complex operation and expedites isolation of network problems.
