Abstract: An apparatus and a method for correcting colors of an image projection device are provided. The method includes: acquiring a photographed image by photographing a sample image projected on projection surface; generating input-output color information for n regions, based on color values of a block in the sample image and corresponding color values of the block in the photographed image; selecting one of the n regions of photographed images as a reference region; generating look-up tables (LUTs) for non-reference regions, based on the reference region and the input and output color information; and correcting colors of input images to be projected by the image projection device using the look-up tables, thereby minimizing color difference of the input images on the projection surface for both intra and inter projection device color correction while simplifying the correction procedure.

Abstract: A video conference system provides “in the room” telepresence to near end participants. The video conference system includes a frameless or bezelless display device placed in front of a front wall for displaying edge-to-edge 3D images of far end participants. Color of the near end front wall is configured to be the same as the color of the far end rear wall. As a result, images displayed on the display device can merge or blend into the near end front wall, giving the near end participants the perception that the far end participants are actually in the near end conference room. Brightness of the faces/bodies of the near end participants can also be adjusted to match the brightness of the face/bodies of the images of the far end participants as they appear on the display device—therefore enhancing the in the room perception of the far end participants.

Abstract: A shader can include a series of instructions, among which are horizontal instructions and vertical instructions. Executing such shader for rendering animation information may mean many redundant computations on millions of graphic data points. Thus, vertical instructions are separated out from horizontal instructions and executed in a vertical manner, thereby reducing rendering time and cache space used during the process. That is, a block of instructions is recursively subdivided until a number of instructions that are to be executed in a horizontal manner are approximately minimized in each sub-block. All of the identified vertical sub-blocks can process each data point individually and independently from other data points, thereby achieving various advantages, including, but not limited to, temporary processing, index processing, efficient caching and the like.

  • Patent number: 8427499
Abstract: A display color-correcting system is provided. Color response values are measured that go into the vertices of polyhedra in a cubic color output space of the display. A set of corresponding values for the display is built from intermediate values determined between the measured color response values. The intermediate values are determined by decomposition and interpolation of interpolation volumes in the cubic color output space. Each of the interpolation volumes is the combined volume of a selected polyhedron within the cubic color output space and a predetermined volume of space between the selected polyhedron and the next polyhedron within the cubic color output space. The set of corresponding values is converted into decoupled RGB adjustment values that specify the RGB signals independently for the display to produce corrected colors. The RGB adjustment values are saved into one or more look-up tables.

Abstract: Correction data tables or look up tables (LUTs) are stored in a table memory. When an overshoot calculation section switches an active LUT, the overshoot calculation section obtains the new active LUT not out of an external memory but out of the table memory. A table managing section deletes, from the internal memory, LUTs to which the new active LUT does not switch over directly, for example non-adjacent LUTs, meanwhile the table managing section obtains a new adjacent LUT from the external memory so as to store the new adjacent LUT in the table memory. With the arrangement, it becomes possible for a drive circuit to (i) operate at the same processing speed as a drive circuit in which all tables are stored in the internal memory, and simultaneously, (ii) reduce the amount of memory.

  • Patent number: 8120617
Abstract: A method and apparatus for color conversion useful for color devices having a large number of input channels, for example CMYK color printers having additional inks used to enhance the color printer's gamut. The color conversion is performed using a strata collection of look-up tables that stratify an n-dimensional color space into sets of lower dimensional subspaces. For lower dimension subspaces, the associated look-up tables may be closed, while for a higher dimension subspace, an associated look-up table may be open, leaving gaps in the subspace not enclosed by a look-up table. A color management module using the strata collection for color conversion may determine if a color conversion is for a color value that falls within a gap. If so, the color management module may use a relatively complex interpolation process. If not, the color management module may use a relatively simple interpolation process.

Abstract: A graphic processing system to compute a texture level of detail. An embodiment of the graphic processing system includes a memory device, a driver, and level of detail computation logic. The memory device is configured to implement a first lookup table. The first lookup table is configured to provide a first level of detail component. The driver is configured to calculate a log value of a second level of detail component. The level of detail computation logic is coupled to the memory device and the driver. The level of detail computation logic is configured to compute a level of detail for a texture mapping operation based on the first level of detail component from the lookup table and the second level of detail component from the driver. Embodiments of the graphic processing system facilitate a simple hardware implementation using operations other than multiplication, square, and square root operations.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus, program product, and method determine an achievable gamut achievable by the imaging engine or engines for all spatial locations of an output image, or all utilized print engines. A reference gamut is calculated which is any gamut containing the achievable gamut. A gamut mapping is used to map gamuts from the mean gamut to the achievable gamut, and a set of transformations is calculated for each of a set of input colors to a set of target colors selected from colors in the achievable gamut. Values for a received digital image are transformed for each image pixel or clusters of pixels based on the calculated set of transformations. Output images are generated based on the transformed values.

Abstract: When each value of luminance signals of three primary colors in the primary video signal is less than the output lower limit value, in short, when the gradation level is negative, the negative gradation level of the present primary color is, in accordance with its magnitude, in other words, in accordance with the absolute value of the negative gradation level, replaced with positive gradation levels of other two primary colors. Therefore, in accordance with A VIDEO SIGNAL CONVERTER of this invention, even when the primary video signal includes a signal value having a negative gradation level, in short, even when one or more of each signal value of RGB is below the output lower limit value, a color according to the combination of those gradation levels (a combination of each level of primary colors (RGB)) can be reproduced (displayed) by a display means.

  • Patent number: 8045220
Abstract: In creating a color conversion table, search time for searching a point at which a color difference with a target color corresponding to a grid point is minimum can be reduced effectively. In a predetermined grid point constituting a second pre-color processing table, a post-RGB value of a target color of the grid point is determined by interpolation computation using a first pre-color processing table created beforehand. An interpolation operation using each grid point data of a plurality of grid points in the neighborhood in the table is executed, thus the post-RGB value of an object grid point is determined. Next, a neighboring region of the obtained post-RGB value is set, and a post-RGB value of most approximate to the target color in the neighboring region is determined as grid point data of the object grid point.

  • Patent number: 8035654
Abstract: Tuning sizes of cells of an interpolated lookup table may be performed based at least in part on an area specific behavior of a quality metric. A weighted input shaper curve may be determined to reduce interpolation errors in a multi-dimensional color lookup table. An initial input shaper curve may be applied to a color lookup table to create an interpolation result. The interpolation result may then be assessed for accuracy. The accuracy assessment may include comparing the interpolation result with a reference representation. An interpolation error may be calculated as the error between one or more intervals in a prospective color lookup table as compared to a reference representation. The weighted input shaper curve may be based at least in part on the calculated interpolation error.

Abstract: Determination of a grid structure for a set of values in a device color space, in which heuristics are applied to a collection of color sample data in order to determine the structure of a look-up table that best fits the samples. Sampling data is sorted for each channel thereof, and the number of steps in each channel is counted. The data is checked for completeness. Steps are removed if they do not correspond to steps on the axes of a three-dimensional cube. If, as a result of step removal, a full LUT has been obtained, then the structure of the LUT has been determined and the process ends. On the other hand, if a full LUT has not been obtained, then steps are removed if they are under-correlated with other steps.
