  • Patent number: 11030791
Abstract: A technique for determining the centroid for fragments generated using variable rate shading. Because the barycentric interpolation used to determine texture coordinates for pixels is based on the premise that the point being interpolated is within the triangle, centroids that are outside of the triangle can produce undesirable visual artifacts. Another concern, however, is that the further the centroid is from the center of a pixel, the less accurate quad-based pixel derivatives become for attributes of that pixel. To address these concerns, the position of the sample that is both covered by the triangle and the closest to the center of the pixel, out of all covered samples of the pixel, is used as the centroid for a partially covered pixel. For a fully covered pixel (all samples in a pixel are covered by a triangle), the center of that pixel is used as the centroid.

  • Patent number: 10565772
Abstract: A graphics processing unit (GPU) processes graphics data using a rendering space which is sub-divided into a plurality of tiles. The GPU comprises cost indication logic configured to obtain a cost indication for each of a plurality of sets of one or more tiles of the rendering space. The cost indication for a set of tile(s) is suggestive of a cost of processing the set of one or more tiles. The GPU controls a rendering complexity with which primitives are rendered in tiles based on the cost indication for those tiles. This allows tiles to be rendered in a manner that is suitable based on the complexity of the graphics data within the tiles. In turn, this allows the rendering to satisfy constraints such as timing constraints even when the complexity of different tiles may vary significantly within an image.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer readable media to improve the operation of a display system are disclosed. Techniques disclosed herein selectively darken a region of an image so that when text or other information is rendered into that region, the contrast between the text or other information and the underlying image in that area is sufficient to ensure the text or other information is visible and readable. In one embodiment, a region into which information is to be rendered may be combined or blended with tone mapped values of those same pixels in accordance with a given function, where the function gives more weight to the tone mapped pixel values the closer those pixels are to the midline of the region and more weight to untone-mapped image pixel values the further those pixels are from the midline of the region.

Abstract: A large web page is analyzed and partitioned into smaller sub-pages so that a user can navigate the web page on a small form factor device. The user can browse the sub-pages to find and read information in the content of the large web page. The partitioning can be performed at a web server, an edge server, at the small form factor device, or can be distributed across one or more such devices. The analysis leverages design habits of a web page author to extract a representation structure of an authored web page. The extracted representation structure includes high level structure using several markup language tag selection rules and low level structure using visual boundary detection in which visual units of the low level structure are provided by clustering markup language tags. User viewing habits can be learned to display favorite parts of a web page.

  • Patent number: 9396515
Abstract: One embodiment sets forth a method for transforming 3-D images into 2-D rendered images using render target sample masks. A software application creates multiple render targets associated with a surface. For each render target, the software application also creates an associated render target sample mask configured to select one or more samples included in each pixel. Within the graphics pipeline, a pixel shader processes each pixel individually and outputs multiple render target-specific color values. For each render target, a ROP unit uses the associated render target sample mask to select covered samples included in the pixel. Subsequently, the ROP unit uses the render target-specific color value to update the selected samples in the render target, thereby achieving sample-level color granularity.
