  • Patent number: 10558036
Abstract: A virtual reality (VR) headset includes an electronic display element that outputs image light via a plurality of sub-pixels that are separated from each other by a dark space. To mask the dark space between adjacent sub-pixels in the electronic display element, an optics block (e.g., a lens) in the VR headset oscillates or the electronic display element oscillates. For example, a piezoelectric material is coupled to the electronic display element or to the optics block. When a voltage is applied to the piezoelectric material, vibration of the piezoelectric material causes oscillation of the electronic display element or the optics block. The oscillation generates blur spots in the image light that mask the dark space between adjacent sub-pixels, with each blur spot corresponding to a blurred image of a sub-pixel in the image light.

Abstract: A three-dimensional image displaying system includes a drive controller, a display panel, a refraction variable part, and a lens. The drive controller is configured to display a slice image of a stereoscopic object on the display panel according to a set sequence and control, according to a depth of the slice image in the stereoscopic object, refraction intensity of the refraction variable part for a light ray projected by the display panel when the slice image is displayed on the display panel. A time required for successively displaying all slice images, which are of the stereoscopic object to be imaged and are perpendicular to one visual axis, on the display panel at a time according to the set sequence is less than a time of persistence of vision. The display panel is configured to display the slice image under control of the drive controller. The lens is configured to perform imaging according to a light ray refracted by the refraction variable part.

Abstract: Second barrier electrodes are arranged under first barrier electrodes so as to fill gaps between the first barrier electrodes, while an insulating layer is located between the first barrier electrodes and the second barrier electrodes. The number of first barrier electrodes and the number of second barrier electrodes in each barrier pitch are 6 or more. The positions of the barriers formed by the first barrier electrodes and the second barrier electrodes are controlled by the reception of a signal representing detected positions of the eyes of a viewer. If pitches of the first barrier electrodes are defined as BE, and the widths of regions in which the first barrier electrodes are overlapped with the second barrier electrodes are defined as BA, a ratio BA/BE of the widths BA to the pitches BE are 0.3 or smaller. This configuration can suppress the occurrence of moire.
