Abstract: A microscopy and/or lithography system uses a comparatively low-resolution image projection system, which has a very small numerical aperture but large image field, in conjunction with a microlens array comprising miniature lens elements, each of which has a large numerical aperture but very small field. The projection system contains a small aperture stop which is imaged by the microlenses onto an array of diffraction-limited microspots on the microscope sample or printing surface at the microlens focal point positions, and the surface is scanned to build up a complete raster image from the focal point array. The system design thus circumvents the tradeoff between image resolution and field size which is the source of much of the complexity and expense of conventional wide-field, high-NA microscopy and microlithography systems.
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for displaying numerical information in symbolized digital form while providing by the same symbolizing an analog presentation of changes in the information being displayed. According to the invention, numbers are represented by modifications of a row of six dots in which symbolizations of the digits are effected by either (a) positioning a dot above or below the row of six dots at a predetermined location indicative of a particular numeral from zero through nine, or (b) by adding one dot or deleting no more than two dots in the row of six dots in a predetermined pattern to represent a particular numeral from zero through nine.

Abstract: A water level recorder for use with pressure-sensitive chart paper and having a framework with a lead screw rotatably mounted in the framework. A pulley is secured to the lead screw. The pulley is driven by a tape which is positioned by a float that is adapted to rest upon the surface of the water. A lead screw nut is mounted on the lead screw for movement longitudinally of the lead screw as the lead screw is rotated. A marking member for marking the chart paper is carried by the lead screw nut. A drum is secured to the lead screw for rotation with the lead screw. A helix for marking the chart paper is formed on the drum. Chart paper drive means is provided for advancing the chart paper over the helix and the marking member.

Abstract: A control device for controlling the movements of first and second recording means support-carriages of a two-carriage duplex recorder, comprising a flexible elongated traction means connected to said first carriage, and drive means associated with said traction means for moving said first carriage selectively in two opposite directions, wherein coaxial first and second wheels are mounted for rotation as a unit on said second carriage about an axis at right angles to said two opposite directions, said first wheel being in driving relationship with said traction means so as to be rotatively driven thereby, and an elongated fixed reaction member extending in a parallel direction to said two opposite directions and being in engagement with said second wheel to cause the latter and said second carriage to move along said reaction member upon rotation of said first and second wheels.
Abstract: A device for creating a display of a variable, the instantaneous values of hich are converted into a digital voltage signal which is encoded into a code created in conformity with a numerical system such as the decimal system or the octal system. The encoded signals are supplied to a control circuit which determines the highest value signal and processes this signal with signals from at least the next low valued group of signals.
