  • Patent number: 9798237
Abstract: A method for optical transmission of a structure into a recording medium which can be transformed locally from a first undefined state into a second defined state by irradiating with photons from a photon source. The two states of the recording medium are manifested in different physical and/or chemical properties of the recording medium. At least one photon source having a photon flux of less than 104 photons per second is selected for the irradiation with the photons. It was recognized that with such a low photon flux especially fine structures can advantageously be transmitted into the recording medium without the irradiation having to be partially blocked by a mask. In this manner, for a given wavelength (energy) of the photons, structures can be transmitted that are considerably smaller than the width, defined by the diffraction limit, of the probability distribution for the locations at which the emitted photons are incident.

Abstract: In a thermal printer, the print mode that has been set by the user is judged at the start of printing. When the high-speed print mode is set, the standard deviation &sgr; of the original image data is calculated. According to the standard deviation &sgr;, it is judged whether the densities are evenly distributed. When the densities are evenly distributed, a gradation conversion characteristic is selected for converting the gradation in the entire density range only by decreasing the number of gradation levels of the output image. When the densities are intensively concentrated in a specific density range, it is further judged whether the specific density range is the low, middle, or high density range. According to the judgement, the gradation values of input data are converted using a gradation conversion characteristic for decreasing the number of gradation levels of the output image and accurately reproducing the gradation in the specific density range.

  • Patent number: 5765953
Abstract: A control device which controls the supply of energy heating elements of a thermal head. The control device to a memory includes for storing multiplication results as correction energy values of combinations of influence parameters, each of the influence parameters indicating a degree of influence caused by a reference heating element on a targeted heating element, and all energy values that can be supplied to reference heating elements. The control device also includes an address generation section for specifying a reference heating element that affects the targeted heating element based on printing data and generating an address based on a combination of the influence parameter of the reference heating element and the energy value that was supplied to the reference heating element and a memory control section for reading out a correction energy value from the memory based on the generated address.

  • Patent number: 5604526
Abstract: A correction apparatus for a thermal printer includes a memory for storing the deviation quantity of each heating element of a thermal print head or a temperature correction quantity, a first computer means for adding introduced image data and the deviation quantity wherein the gradation value of the image data is reflected when the heating element for printing the introduced image data is lower than the average resistance value or the current temperature, a second computer means for subtracting the deviation quantity wherein the gradation value of image data is reflected, from the introduced image data when the heating element for printing the introduced image data is higher than the average resistance value or the current temperature. Thus, the resistance correction according to the deviation of the heating element resistance and the temperature correction are realized by a simple circuit, thus reducing the memory capacity, which decreases the amount of required hardware.

  • Patent number: 5473355
Abstract: Half-tone image data and character image data are discriminated from each other with reference to discrimination data, and are stored separately from each other. In accordance with the image to be printed, one of a character print table and a half-tone print table is selected. In accordance with the result of comparison of the character image data with comparison data read from the character print table, characters are recorded using two kinds of character dot print patterns for recording a dot in the whole area of an associated pixel and for recording no dot. Half-tone images are recorded in the area gradation method using half-tone dot print patterns in accordance with the result of comparison of the half-tone image data with comparison data read from the half-tone print table. One pixel is divided into a plurality of sub-lines. The recording of the characters is performed at intervals of N sub-lines, N is an integer. The recording of the half-tone images is performed at intervals of one sub-line.

  • Patent number: 5400059
Abstract: A high speed thermal printer including a maximum data detector for detecting maximum gradation data from the image signal of a line received from a signal input source on a line-by-line basis, a drum motor for transporting printing paper, a reel motor for transporting film containing printing dye, and a servo controller for controlling a printing speed by varying the speed of the drum motor and the reel motor in accordance with the detected maximum data value. The printer has the advantages of the drum motor and reel motor being driven at a constant speed for the duration of the maximum gradation printing, and the dye being expressed uniformly throughout the printing line. Thus, high quality printing can be achieved and the printing time decreased by the motors being driven at a constant speed to the following printing position after the maximum gradation of a line has been printed.
