Abstract: A method for correcting the skewed recording of a printing original on a recording material in an exposer includes the steps of projecting, with an exposure head, a linear array of exposure points generated by N laser beams onto the recording material and moving the exposure head continuously along an exposure drum in axial feeding direction as the exposure drum rotates. As a result, the printing original is recorded along a helix wound around the exposure drum. The laser beams are modulated with image data that is taken from a stored image point matrix along an angled read path, the read path running through the image point matrix at an angle formed by the helix with respect to a circumferential line of the exposure drum.

Abstract: An improved method and system for printing electric paper is described. The method utilizes a system for keeping a writing characteristic, such as an electric charge or an electric current, constant with each pixel of an electric paper as the electric paper moves through a system. By keeping the electrical characteristic constant at each pixel, as the electric paper moves, the throughput of an electric paper printing system is significantly enhanced.

  • Patent number: 7312807
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for maintaining an edge of a print media against a printing drum, said drum comprising a surface on which a print media is wrapped for printing thereon, wherein said device comprises at least one holder which comprises an abutment portion against which an edge of the media abuts before or during wrapping of the media on the drum surface, the holder being adapted to bring an upstanding portion of the media into contact with the drum surface by performing a movement with respect to the drum surface between a media edge reception position and a media edge clamping position, the movement of the holder from said reception position to said clamping position being performed in such a way that as the holder approaches the clamping position the distance between the edge of the media and the abutment portion of the holder increases, or remains substantially the same, thereby allowing the media in its clamping position to be substantially flat on the drum surface.

  • Patent number: 7310108
Abstract: A printing system includes first and second marking engines which are operatively connected to each other for printing images onto print media. A print media transport system collects printed media from the marking engines. The print media transport system includes a common paper path which receives printed media from the first and second marking engines. A sensor element is associated with the common paper path for measuring an image quality parameter of printed media traveling thereon and generating a control signal therefrom. An image quality controller is in communication with the sensor element for adjusting image quality parameters in at least one of the first marking engine and second marking engine based on the control signal to reduce a variation in an image quality characteristic of printed images produced by the first and second marking engines.

  • Patent number: 7277114
Abstract: A photographic printer is loaded with two webs of photographic paper, and produces photographic prints by exposure thereto. Initially, the photographic paper is advanced from two photographic paper rolls in parallel. Those two are combined together to constitute a photographic paper roll unit. The photographic paper is cut to obtain photographic paper sheets, on which an image frame is formed. In one embodiment, the photographic paper roll unit includes a single axial core which extends through axial holes of the two photographic paper rolls positioned at an interval L1, and is fitted thereon. The photographic paper rolls include a spliced region for splicing two consecutive photographic paper strips to one another. The spliced region is detected from a single one of the two photographic paper rolls in combination.

Abstract: The number of pages of a print job received at printer (10) is determined (256). If the number of pages is low, printing is conducted at intermediate speed (262). If the number of pages is higher, printing is conducted at high speed (254). If the number of pages is not known, a default is selected (260). The default often will be to print at intermediate speed because most jobs are short. If high speed printing is in progress when a job is received, the next job is printed at high speed (254). Alternatively, a predetermined number of the first pages of a job may be printed at intermediate speed.

  • Patent number: 7088384
Abstract: An image recorder includes a punch unit for punching a hole in a plate. The punch unit has six punchers disposed movably. Punches of the punchers can punch holes of different configurations. A punch of a required configuration moves to a required location toward a plate prepared on an upper tray of a feed/discharge unit. After a hole is punched in the plate by this punch, the plate is fed to a drum. This allows changes in the location of a punched hole in the plate without the need to simply increase the number of punchers when the range of plate sizes mountable on the drum is expanded. If competition in punch standards occurs, the image recorder allows a required puncher to be situated in a desired location.
