  • Publication number: 20120320125
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a recording head, a cap, a suction unit, and a recovery device. The recording head has nozzles at a nozzle face to horizontally eject droplets of liquid. The cap caps the nozzle face of the recording head. The suction unit is connected to the cap. The recovery device drives the suction unit with the nozzle face capped with the cap to create a negative pressure in an internal space of the cap and suck the liquid from the recording head. The cap has a contact portion to contact the nozzle face and a suction port to communicate with the suction unit. The suction port is disposed away from the contact portion with a minute gap at a lowermost area of the cap in a vertical direction.

Abstract: A liquid ejector includes a liquid ejection head, a discharge path, a cap, a pump, a first tank, a second tank, a first valve, and a second valve. The liquid ejection head ejects liquid through a nozzle. The cap covers the nozzle. The pump sucks the liquid from the liquid ejection head through the cap and the nozzle and conveys the liquid to a downstream end of the discharge path. The first tank communicates with the outside air, and temporarily stores the liquid in the discharge path. The second tank is detachably attached to the liquid ejector and is connected to the downstream end of the discharge path. The first valve switches the state of the first tank between open to and cut off from the outside air. The second valve switches the state of the first tank between connection to and cut off from the second tank.

Abstract: A printer comprises a first head which has first nozzles, a second head which has second nozzles each having a nozzle diameter larger than that of the first nozzle, and an ink cartridge which stores an ink to be supplied to the first and second heads. The first head is directly connected to the ink cartridge by means of a tube. The second head is connected to the first head by means of a tube, and thus the second head is connected to the ink cartridge via the first head. Accordingly, it is possible to shorten the tubes by connecting the ink cartridge and the two heads in series. Further, it is possible to decrease the frequency of the recovery operation by arranging, on the downstream side in the liquid supply direction, the head in which the jetting failure is hardly caused.

  • Patent number: 8152266
Abstract: To provide a method of effectively reducing the amount of ink droplets remaining on a nozzle surface after a cleaning operation, and an inkjet recording apparatus capable of shortening an entire processing time of an initial filling operation and a cleaning operation by shortening an ink discharge operation time. By providing a partition wall so that a suction port and an atmosphere opening port provided on a back side of a porous sheet placed in a cap are not directly communicated with each other, in an ink discharge operation in the cap, air having entered through the atmosphere opening port flows through a space between the porous sheet and the nozzle surface, and thereafter, flows to the suction port via the porous sheet. Therefore, ink droplets remaining adhering to the nozzle surface can be removed using the force of air flow.
