More specifically, when dividing multi-valued data and generating two-pass multi-pass printing data, divided multi-valued data that is common to the two passes is generated in addition to the divided multi-valued data for each of the two passes. Moreover, quantized data of that common multi-valued data is reflected on the quantized data for each pass. Furthermore, when generating quantized data, a process of generating common data by the aforementioned data division, or a process of performing quantization first without dividing the multi-valued data and then dividing the quantized 2-pass data is selectively performed according to the printing position on printing medium.

  • Patent number: 8840209
Abstract: In a printing device, a first control unit prints, by a first print method, an image on a first region of a recording sheet in a first state in which a recording sheet is clamped by both an upstream and downstream clamping portions. A second control unit prints, by a second print method, an image on a second region of the recording sheet in a second state in which the recording sheet is clamped either one of the upstream and downstream clamping portions. A third control unit prints, by a combination of the first and second print methods, an image on a third region of the recording sheet between the first and second regions. When the third control unit prints the image on the third region, a state of the recording sheet is set to be changed from the first state to the second state.

  • Patent number: 8833904
Abstract: A first registration mark is printed by a first printhead on print media at a first initial encoder value. A second registration mark is printed by a second printhead on print media at a second initial encoder value. The second registration mark is spaced apart from the first registration mark. The first and second registration marks are detected using the mark detection system as each is transported past the mark detection system. The displacement signal is used to measure a displacement of the print media between the detection of the second and first registration marks by the mark detection system. A cue delay value is determined for the second printhead so that a subsequently printed first image plane and a second image plane are registered relative to each other using the displacement, the first initial encoder value, and the second initial encoder value.

  • Patent number: 8814306
Abstract: An inkjet printer is configured to capture image data of a bare rotating imaging surface and use the image data of the bare rotating imaging surface to remove noise from subsequent images of printed ink on the rotating imaging surface. A controller in the printer is configured to measure cross-correlations between margins in the bare rotating imaging surface image data and margins in the subsequent images of printed ink to identify areas of alignment between the image data of the bare rotating imaging surface and the subsequent images of printed ink. The data in the areas in the image data of the bare rotating imaging surface that are aligned with areas in the subsequent images are used to remove the background noise produced by structure in the rotating imaging surface.
