Conversion Between Standards With Different Aspect Ratios Patents (Class 348/445)
  • Patent number: 8947595
Abstract: A combined fingerprint is generated for a video that can match two near-identical videos that differ only in their aspect ratios or formats. A transformation strategy is selected by selecting a first and a second aspect correction method. A first transformed video is generated by applying the first aspect correction method to the video. A second transformed video is generated by applying the second aspect correction method to the video. A first fingerprint is generated using the first transformed video. A second fingerprint is generated using the second transformed video. The combined fingerprint is generated by combining the first half of the first fingerprint with the second half of the second fingerprint.

  • Patent number: 8928804
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments directed to transcoding a bit stream in parallel. A bit stream may be divided into a plurality of segments, where a plurality of transcoders encode at least a portion of the segments in parallel. If encoding is performed using variable bit rate (BR) encoding, each encoder may encode a segment and vary a BR for the segment. A measured average BR is compared with a target average BR to determine whether to adjust a video quality level (VQL) or any other encoder parameter. A relatively constant subjective quality may be maintained using variable BR encoding while achieving a target average BR. When using constant BR encoding, a VQL or other encoder parameter is used by encoders to achieve relatively constant subjective quality. For example, a relatively continuous quantization parameter between adjacent encoded segments may be achieved.

Abstract: Embodiments describe methods, apparatus and systems to provide video display correction to provide an on-axis view at an off-axis angle so that the display surface displays a rectangular video image. For instance, a device may receive a stream of video data to be displayed on a display surface of a display, the video data having a first rectangular aspect ratio to be viewed from an on-axis location with respect to the display surface. The device may also receive a user selection of an off-axis viewing angle with respect to the display surface. The device may then correct the first rectangular aspect ratio to a second, non-rectangular aspect ratio based on the off-axis viewing angle, so that from the off-axis angle, the display surface appears to display a rectangular video image. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: A field sequence detector determines the field sequence of a series of fields of video by assessing the vertical frequency content of hypothetical de-interlaced images. Hypothetical images are formed from a currently processed field and an adjacent (e.g. previous or next) field. If the vertical frequency content is relatively high (e.g. above ½ the Nyquist frequency for the image), the hypothetical image is assessed to be formed of improperly interlaced fields, belonging to different frames. If the frequency content is relatively low, the hypothetical image is assessed to be properly assembled from fields of the same frame. The field sequence in the series of fields may be detected from the assessed frequency content for several of said series of fields. Known field sequence, such as 3:2 pull-down, 2:2 pull down, and more generally m:n:l:k pull-down sequences.

  • Patent number: 8670070
Abstract: A method and system are provided in which a video image may be scaled from a first to a second video format. The scaling may be a non-uniform scaling such as an anamorphic scaling. When panning associated with the scaled video image is detected, one or more end portions of a current frame of the scaled video image may be adjusted, the adjustment being based on one or more frames of the scaled video image that are previous to the current frame. The adjustment may result from combining information from the corresponding end portion of previous frames with the information of the current frame. One or more end portions that are opposite to the ones adjusted may also be adjusted based on one or more frames of the scaled video image that are subsequent to the current frame. The panning detected may be horizontal, vertical, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: A method for increasing the resolution of a frame of a video includes receiving at least three frames of the video and compensating for the motion of a portion of at least two of the frames with respect to another one of the frames. After the motion compensation, spatially processing each of the frames of the video to increase the resolution of each of the at least three frames of the video. After the spatial processing, temporally processing at least three frames to determine the increased resolution of the frame of the video, wherein the frame is one of the at least three frames of the video.

  • Patent number: 8610825
Abstract: An acquisition unit reads content including at least, (a) an image signal of an image frame defined by first and second directions, (b) first and second sizes showing sizes in the first and second directions, and (c) an aspect ratio of the second direction to the first direction. An inspection unit inspects whether the content includes a display area specification. A determination unit calculates a third size by multiplying the first size by the aspect ratio and determines a display area of the image frame based on an entire range in the first direction and a range of the third size from a predetermined position in the image frame in the second direction, when the display area specification is not included in the content. A controller performs control so that the display area of the image frame is displayed and a part other than the display area is not displayed.

Abstract: According to the invention, a video distribution system is disclosed. The video distribution system distributes a video program in a first aspect ratio and includes information to convert the first aspect ratio to a second aspect ratio. Included in the video distribution system are a distribution point and a video converter that is located remotely from the distribution point. The video converter receives the information and the video program from the distribution point. The video converter uses the information to guide conversion between the first aspect ratio and the second aspect ratio.

Abstract: A video processing method and a device thereof are described. The method includes the steps as follows. An input video signal is received, in which a single period of the input video signal has a plurality of first input frames and a plurality of second input frames. The input video signal is processed, so as to generate an output video signal, in which a single period of the output video signal has a plurality of first output frames and a plurality of second output frames, and an amount of the first output frames is the same as an amount of the second output frames. A sum of the amount of the first output frames and the amount of second output frames is an integer multiple of a sum of an amount of the first input frames and an amount of the second input frames.

Abstract: In an initial stage, using a global motion vector, a rough degree of image shaking is determined. After the image shaking is determined to have converged to some measure, using the difference values between frames, the finer degree of the image shaking is determined. And if it is determined to be free of image shaking, the recording photography is made to be done. Thereby, with certainty in the timing of no hand shaking and no image shaking, the photographing can be done.
