  • Patent number: 8064748
Abstract: An interface is realized that can prevent video signals from being copied easily and which uses a luminance/color difference signal transmission scheme with an excellent harmony with a television circuit. In a video transmission using a digital interface, colorimetry information for defining the conversion from the luminance/color difference signal into a primary color signal and video aspect ratio information are transmitted along with the luminance/color difference type video signal. This allows reproduction of video with high quality and high resolution and also realizes a copyright protection which allows only the users authorized by key information to use the content of the video. With this transmission scheme, it is possible to provide a transmitting apparatus, a receiving apparatus and an interface which highly harmonize with a rationalized television-based circuit.

  • Patent number: 7184093
Abstract: The formatting of a video image frame (10) having a first aspect ratio to yield an image frame having a different aspect ratio is facilitated by establishing a pan and scan pixel coordinate (P) within the image that defines an image capture window for formatting purposes. A predictor (22) determines the pan and scan pixel coordinate by examining the image frame to determine the location therein of the most pertinent activity. The predictor (22) determines the location of the most pertinent activity by examining at least one of: video data, audio data, and other data such as closed captioning information.

  • Patent number: 6956625
Abstract: An image processing apparatus and method for realizing panorama/waterglass functions, which are capable of reducing the size of a memory and simplifying memory control, are provided. In order to write a plurality of consecutive pixel data into memory devices, and simultaneously to read the plurality of consecutive pixel data from memory devices, the consecutive pixel data are separated into a plurality of first-in first-out (FIFO) buffers having a small size, thereby minimizing the size of a memory. Further, an identical clock signal is used, and the separated FIFOs are used when the consecutive pixel data are written to the memory devices and read from the memory devices, thereby simplifying memory control such as address control. Further, when realizing panorama/waterglass functions, the scaling ratio function is variably set, thereby variably realizing memories having sizes which vary according to the scaling ratio function.

  • Patent number: 6788311
Abstract: Data intended to be displayed on a higher resolution display such as a non-interlaced display used as a computer monitor may be converted for display on a lower resolution display such as an interlaced display. The conversion may be done in a way that preserves the intended frame format while enhancing readability. For example, in one embodiment, the frames intended for non-interlaced display may be preserved in size for display in the same frame format on a lower resolution interlaced display. Local magnification may be selectively implemented for particular regions to enhance the readability of those regions. Upon selection, such local magnification may provide pixel loss and color corrections in addition to local magnification. In this way the frame format may be preserved while enhancing readability.

  • Patent number: 5812209
Abstract: When the time is to be set to a clock in a video tape recorder (VTR) utilizing time information that is interpolated in a broadcasting signal, a broadcasting station for this time setting can easily be selected by using broadcasting station tables containing identification codes of broadcasting stations which transmit time information of the areas (countries) separately for each area. A microprocessor in the VTR successively searches broadcasting stations and selects the broadcasting station which has the broadcasting station identification code contained in its broadcasting station tables in VPS or Teletext as the broadcasting station desired for time setting. Not only are the broadcasting station identification codes to be stored in memory but also a priority order may be stored in the broadcasting tables to enable the selection of a broadcasting station having the highest priority from among the received broadcasting station identification codes as the determined broadcasting station for time setting.

  • Patent number: 5745186
Abstract: A 4:4:4 component video signal comprising a luminance signal Y and color-difference signals Cb and Cr is transformed to a 4:1:1 component coded video signal coded by a coding device, reducing processing is carried out after transformation and the result is written into the frame memory based on an enable signal. At this point, the pulse number of the enable signal ENy of the reduced luminance signal is counted, the differential between the horizontal pixel number when the reduced color-difference signals are decoded to the original 4:4:4 component video signal and the horizontal pixel number of the reduced luminance signal is determined, a dummy pulse of this differential is generated and the dummy pulse portion only of the writing address of the frame memory for the reduced luminance signal is shifted backwards. Reduced signals read out from the frame memory are outputted after being decoded to the original 4:4:4 component video signal by the decoding device.

Abstract: A method is provided for reducing or magnifying the picture size of a video composite signal with the use of fewer memories than a conventional video composite signal processor which processes pixel data after being converted into R, G, B signals. A video composite signal is directly converted into digital data and sampled with a sampling frequency of four times the color sub-carrier and stored in a pair of field buffers to be processed for picture size reduction or magnification. The digital data are reduced or multiplied in units of pairs of data with a phase difference of .pi./2. Color information is reproduced from corresponding two pairs of data of two adjacent fields having a phase difference of .pi..

  • Patent number: 5668604
Abstract: In a structure composed having a one-bit counter, a D-FF, a selector, and an AND gate, while the signal level of a thin-out signal is low, a read clock signal of a line memory is thinned out. Thus, video signals (a Y signal, a CR signal, and a CB signal) read from a line memory are horizontally magnified. At this point, both edges of a low portion of the input thin-out signal are synchronized with even number data of color difference signals (CR/CB) read from the line memory after a start signal that is a video signal read start signal is input.
