  • Patent number: 8576336
Abstract: A video formatter reformats progressive video using a film-based video film rate and a display refresh rate to determine a frame OFF period for a progressive video sequence. The video formatter inserts at least one black frame into the progressive video sequence to approximate the frame OFF period. Typically, the film rate is 24 frames per second (industry standard) and, thus, the display refresh rate can be a multiple of the frame rate (e.g., 96 Hz, 120 Hz, 240 Hz, etc.). Progressive video replicates a single frame of a film several times (“a progressive video sequence”) depending on a display's refresh rate. The black frame(s) is/are substituted at the end of this sequence instead of displaying the same image throughout for a single film frame.

Abstract: Supplementary grid blanking and spot burn protection are provided in a receiver/monitor (10) by a grid bias control circuit (50) including a blanking signal generator (60) that produces a blanking output signal (S1) devoid of any picture representative component whenever a vertical blanking signal (VB) or a horizontal blanking signal (HB) is present. A capacitor (C1) strips DC from the blanking signal and the resultant signal (S2) is applied to a modulation input (84) of a grid bias generator to produce an output grid bias reference voltage (Vr) modulated by the AC component of the blanking signal. The reference voltage (Vr) is coupled via a spot burn protection circuit (100) and a grid coupling circuit (120) to the control grids of three projection kinescopes (16, 18, 20).

Abstract: In a television equipped with an image control apparatus, when a signal reception condition is deteriorated, a poor image is not displayed on the television screen by reproducing saved image data. The image control apparatus is arranged by a receiver for receiving a signal including image data, a detecting device for detecting disturbance of the; signal received by the receiver, a memory for saving the image data included in the signal received by the receiver, and a display controller for controlling display of the image data on a display unit. That image data saved in the memory is read out on the detecting device detecting the disturbance of the signal and is displayed, while the disturbance of the signal is continued.

  • Patent number: 5777685
Abstract: An arrangement for reproducing a composite blanking or sync signal includes a vertical deflection circuit having a supply boost stage. A first pulse voltage at a vertical rate is derived from an output signal of the boost stage. The vertical rate, first pulse voltage is coupled to a base terminal of an emitter follower via a voltage divider for producing a leading edge of an output pulse voltage of the emitter follower. The vertical rate first pulse voltage is also coupled via an R-C network to a regenerative switch. The regenerative switch is coupled to the base terminal of the emitter follower for producing a trailing edge of the output pulse voltage of the emitter follower. The trailing edge is produced after a predetermined interval has elapsed from the leading edge. The output pulse voltage of the emitter follower is combined with a horizontal rate pulse voltage for producing the composite sync signal.

  • Patent number: 5748259
Abstract: Disclosed is a screen size control circuit for controlling the screen size of a television according to a power state by using a blanking control signal synchronized by a horizontal or vertical synchronizing signal when a television is being turned on or off. The screen size control circuit includes a signal processing section for generating a composite video signal capable of displaying a TV broadcasting signal received from an antenna, a control signal generating section for controlling a blanking width by generating a blanking control signal increasing or decreasing linearly according to the power condition, and a display section for displaying the composite video signal according to the blanking control signal. As such, the blanking width is modified according to the constitution of the blanking control signal generating section and the inputted synchronizing signal so that the screen opening and closing effect is obtained, and thus eye strain is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5600701
Abstract: In order to image an object larger than a field of view for observation, imaging is effected by dividing it into several times and pictures thus imaged are synthesized to constitute a whole image. In order to image several times, only a detecting unit is moved and an X-ray source is substantially fixed with respect to the object. Images thus obtained include a common part of the object and are joined so that the common part are overlapped on each other. In case where an image pick-up tube is included in the detecting unit, the image pick-up tube is made operable, after a period of time necessary for attenuation of microphonic noise has lapsed, measured from a point of time where the detecting unit has been stopped.

Abstract: A video display system comprises a video display for simultaneously displaying pictures representative of first and second video signals, having first and second synchronizing signals respectively. A switch selectably couples the video display with one of the first and second synchronizing signals. A horizontal synchronizing component of the first synchronizing signal is detected by a sensing circuit, the switch being responsive to the sensing circuit. The video display is synchronized with the first synchronizing signal when the horizontal synchronizing component of the first video signal is sensed and is otherwise synchronized with the second synchronizing signal.

When new digital image signals are formed using the plurality of different kinds of digital image signals, the apparatus is controlled so that a power-consumption state of at least one of a circuit for forming digital image signals and a circuit for delaying digital image signals is lower during a predetermined time period within the analog image signal. It it thereby possible to reduce power consumption of the apparatus, and to simplify the circuitry of the apparatus.
